This guy was excellent as a broacaster. He ought to forget politics and boxing both and focus on broadcasting.
I still think Joe could have won a belt, maybe not be a dominant unified champion but I'd give a shot to beat the following: Maskaev Toney Peter Briggs Ibragimov Rahman
atsch Please he need help from some friendly judging to beat the likes of Barrett and Jirov..Now seeing that the two were beatten by fighters of your list I think it a reach to say that he would have beat those fighters..Personally I think that everyone on that list would have knocked him out
Joe was never the same after he came back. The tune-ups were not getting him back to the level where he needed to be. The last I heard he, like Vitaly, was headed for local politics after quietly cancelling his last scheduled fight. Too bad after teh energy he put into being allowed to fight again.
I also agree. All would beat him. I don't want to start anything, but he was being hyped like Morrison or more due to being Italion. They wanted another Marciano. Now, white, black, or hispanic, America just wants to see a American champion again. Jirov a true CW almost had him out. He was just too small and did not have the power to get someone like Vlad off of him. A future in commentating, yes if a network would have him. I can't remember the weight he usually came in, but he should have tried CW since they moved the weight limit to 200.
Most recently, Joe has taken a position with the Democratic Senate Majority heading up a local Buffalo liaison office. Mesi's name was circulated as a potential Democratic candidate to replace the retiring Jim Hayes in the New York State Assembly. The assembly seat was won by Raymond Walter. The above is from her wiki page...Seems like he is still chasing his political ambitions. I remember talk of them doing a big fight for him in Buffalo either against Rahman or Tyson. I always thought that would have been a cool scene, and both winnable fights for him at the time they were discussed.
