What happened to Jones? I heard two years ago that he was shot.

And now he's fighting the #1 fighter in the world!
When he was fighting Prince Badi everyone said that it was a travesty and wouldn't watch it because RJJ was shot and should retire.
Was Roy right and we were (gulp) wrong?
I thought that those who post here on ESB were boxing experts.
I guess I was wrong and Roy WAS right afterall.

    Posters are unforgiving assholes usually...

Sometimes people just lose one fight, and they are being stomped in the dirt. Othertimes they even win, and receive the same.

Jones was right about what precisely?

He may be fighting Calzaghe and he may still be able to get big money fights, but he is not the fighter he used to be despite what he says. He is no where near that guy. So I don't see where he has been misjudged in that regard. You pop in a video of 1998 RJJ then watch the Trinidad fight and all you have to do is watch the footspeed and lack of movement throughout his whole body relative to his prime. It's not the same quality.

I will always root for RJJ, I watched the Anthony Hanshaw fight with as much intrest as I watched Roy's other fights. Whether he's 25 or 40 I will always respectand root for that man.

What's even more amazing is how all of a sudden, despite his best win ever, Joe C is some ancient palooka with dementia. WTF?

The #1 in the world is Pacquiao, plain and simple. Calzaghe basically waited long enough for Jones to get beyond shot, this is why the fight is signed. When Jones was in his prime no one heard of Calzaghe and the cans he fed on in Wales.

Exactly man, it's not like he was in memorable wars or anything, nothing even close to that.

He was shot two years ago and he is still shot. What I saw of the fight with Hanshaw was a pathetic display. Hanshaw got knocked out by a nobody recently. Jones is done for after Calzaghe. Good Riddance.

Roy is clearly not the same fighter. Otherwise, Calzaghe wouldn't be so eager to fight him. If Roy was in his prime, or even close to it, Calzaghe would do him just he's doing Pavlik. Prime Roy would stomp a mud hole in Calzaghe's ass and walk it dry. Calzaghe claims he tried to fight peak Jones, but he wanted Jones to come to the U.K. Everyone knows peak wasn't about to leave the U.S. So that tells me he really didn't want the fight. Calzaghe tried to get out of the Lacy fight, not realizing that Lacy couldn't compete with him. Luckily for him, he came to his senses. Calzaghe also blatantly ducked Glen Johnson. Calzaghe likes to fight Euro stiffs and geriatrics. Jones fits into that mold. That's why this fight is happening. I can only hope that Jones can pull out one more great performance and beat Calzaghe.

That's exactly why I simply can't consider this guy an ATG like many here do, just no way in hell a guy with such an attitude can be considered an ATG. He has amazing skills, no doubt about it but never used them the way he was supposed to. Just sat there fighting hand picked tomato cans all his career without making any effort to get a serious fight, if it wasn't for Lacy and Kessler going to England even those 2(Only 2 worth mentioning, with 43 year old perfectly timed Hopkins) won't be on his record.

My question is: If Jones was shot two years ago before Prince Badi how is it that he is now "un-shot" and challenging Calzaghe for the Lightheavyweight title?
Remember everyone called for him to retire. Either we were wrong then or we really don't even know what we are talking about anyway.

    Who said he is "unshot"?

Jones is shot relative to prime RJJ. Just because he beat Trinidad, who is smaller than him and also old and out of shape, doesn't suddenly mean he's back. I don't understand how anyone can watch 1998 RJJ and 2008 RJJ and think he is nearly the same fighter he once was.

    OMG!!
A 1998 version of RJJ was a Superman. One of the top fighters ever in history. Now he is merely a near mortal but better than most. How can anyone crticize him?
