This is the guy who used to fight the likes of Hoost , Filho , LeBanner.. So ok , he was embarrassed by Schilt in K1 last year....(no training prior to the fight + it was his first fight under K1 rules since 2003 or 2004...& Schilt is the king of the hill in K1)... The point is...he wasn't even trying! Then , still in 2008...the guy was subbed by Overeem in mma...(in the first round)...(again it's as if he didn't gave a ****...) then , the icing on the cake...He got koed by Manhoef dream/K1's nye show... And the final insult... owned by Mousasi Now , don't get me wrong , I personally think that Mousasi happens to be one of the most complete & talented mma fighter i've seen in a long time...(he's up there with the likes of gsp , Kawajiri , Hansen , Anderson , Aoki , Machida , Penn , etc....etc.) But **** , we're talking about the guy who gave us monumental wars vs JLB...He used to have a warrior's spirit...he used to look motivated... When he first entered the mma scene , i remember being very impressed by this guy , he was working his ass off , was giving us memorable performances , had a huge heart... even his debut against Yoshida was impressive (a fight he ended up losing but he was doing great on the ground..) Who can forget the spectacle that was Wandy vs Hunt ? it was ****ing awesome...He fought Fedor till the end...gave it his best shot...fedor almost dislocated the guy's arm because he wouldn't instantly tap... Where is his motivation ? is he just showing up to collect a paycheck now ? what happened to his intensive training sessions? where is the entertainement ? ...,I realise he's nowhere near his prime but still ! where is the mark Hunt who used to "give a ****" ? ... he seemed super motivated against Crocop (in their rematch)...ok , that was in 2005...but ****...i'm super disappointed. I think he should retire.
Hunt has been on the decline over the past few years. He was pretty devastating in winning the Grand Prix back in 2000 (or was it '01?). I think going between K1 and MMA probably hasn't helped him any. He needs to focus on one sport or the other.
You know whats funny i had a dream about Mark Hunt last night.. In my dream i got pissed at him because of how **** he'd become.
Well Hunt was great in K-1 really, he was fun to watch. Big punches, fast, great reflexes and an iron jaw ... a real samoan. During the K-1 2001 Finals he was on a cloud after knocking out LeBanner in impressive fashion, bit after 2002 he already began to fade. This is also why I hate to see kickboxers or boxers compete in mma because they just take the guy down and stop him with a silly submission. Very frustrating. You cannot make up all the years you did not train on the ground.
People figured out you don't have to slowly strike with him. You can strike fast or take him down. It works.
Mark Hunt is a kickboxer and is a bit one dimensional, he is always going to compete with his stand up skill, but on the ground he is OK, its hard for him to compete against the well rounded guys..
