Pinklon and Bonecrusher Smith were fun to watch back in the day....good boxers who always tried their best...except against Mike Tyson.

interesting thread topic. I just watched a lot of his fights for the first time about a week or two ago and I was really impressed with a lot of what I saw. I found it strange though that in pretty much all of the fights I watched, there were moments where Pink practically just would check out mentally in the middle of the fight, and let the opponent's right back in to the fight. and I don't mean that the opponents earned their way back in, he would let them back in. In the Ratliff fight, he was in total command. Ratliff was running away like he did against Tyson later, and Pink was the boss. Then, like I say, next thing you know, he apparently is more interested in something else, and then for a couple rounds it really looks like we have a competitive fight. Same thing in the Coetzee fight too. And Coetzee obviously is miles ahead of Ratliff, but Pink was the boss there too, and Coetzee was not looking very good at all, and halfway through the fight Pink opens the door and he is lucky to have gotten the draw in this one because this fight easily could have gone to Gerry.

all in all though, I left all his fights really impressed. He was a good puncher and a good, good. jabber like everyone says. also, it's really amazing everything he accomplished in the sport considering his whole back story. Starting so much later in life then most do to reach the levels that he did is one hell of an accomplishment. last, as someone who has had the last 20 years of his life involved in use of that same terrible substance, it blows my mind that he could do anything remotely close to what he did, when, even at times when I have been clean for a year plus, I have trouble coming up with the motivation for getting into the shower some days let alone running miles and letting someone punch on me.

Bowe had a fridge put in his bedroom, but no drugs as far as I've ever read.

He aged overnight around the Berbick fight. Then Tyson finished off what was left. He was a shell after that. He didnt take too much punishment until the Tyson fight so maybe ihs past drug addiction and rumored return to drugs caught up with him.

Holmes was 35 by then. I'd say 60-40 in favor of Thomas by then. But by that time Holmes wasnt about to test himself against the best in the division. He was handed the IBF title and could handpick his opposition. Most of the top 10 were controlled by King. Holmes could make good money after he cut King out and fight easier competition. It was a win win for him.

Thomas definitely tried against Tyson. Took an almighty shellacking early on then fought his way back into the fight.

I just watched the Brit telecast of the fight. As usual I didn't understand a word that came out of Jim Watt's mouth.
Pinklon did very well for a while, taking Dundees advice to be first with the jab. That method worked perfectly for Buster Douglas except it was the lead right. I also forgot they replaced Pinklons torn left glove between the 5th and 6th round. Pinklon certainly didn't quit; he fought on despite taking big shots from Tyson allm6 rounds.

For Berbick, he supposedly wasn’t focused because he was trying to manage an RnB group and he was in the studio singing a lot too. He wasn’t on heroin.

For Tyson, he had Angelo Dundee training him and claimed to have a shoulder injury. Didn’t go back to heroin until right after Tyson beat him.

The Holmes who fought Michael Spinks indeed possibly could have lost to Thomas. Though I believe the Holmes who beat Weaver would have mopped the floor with Coetzee, the same Spinks Holmes would have had more trouble.
