Yes yes I know that the pro's are way different to the amateurs, but just wondering what happened to the boxers that medalled ahead of young Floyd at the olympics? did they even turn pro? Also was Floyd fairly beaten or was it another RJJ olympic farce moment?
This is the guy that beat him http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=17404&cat=boxer I never saw the fight but I hear the the US team officially protested the result.
The US team protested against the decision but it was nowhere near as controversial as the RJJ fight. I'm not even sure they tunred pro.
I did a little looking and found some info on the gold medalist that year. he beat the guy that beat Floyd. Somluck Kamsing, he went back to the games in 2000 and 2004 and came back empty handed both times. he was in the movie "fearless with Jet Li" and is starting a singing career now. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamsing_Somluck
Somrak Khamsing is a fighting superstar in Thailand who fought both Muay Thai and Western boxing. Untill recentley he managed the current best p4p Muay Thai king Saenchai.
Todorov was already 29 when he turned pro in 1998. He was bascially a career amateur. When you're an amateur for like 15 years or more (Todorov was at 3 Olympics 1988, 1992 and 1996) and are perfectly adapted to amateur boxing it doesn't make a lot of sense to turn pro, at that age it's diffcult to change your style to pro boxing.
