What Happened to the Christmas Day Fight Cards?

    They should bring these back. One hundred years ago tomorrow (Dec. 25, 1925) there were 4 fight cards in Philadelphia alone, 9 in Pennsylvania! Tommy Loughran beat out a ten rounder over Emilio Solomon at the Arena in Philly. Maine had four cards. On Christmas Day 1920, New York City had 4 cards with one more across the river in Newark. Philly had another 5 cards. And this just from boxwreck.

    By 1960, there are no cards listed in the US. By 1980, there's only a couple that are in Asia. After that, it's hit or miss, cards in Africa and Asia, maybe some dump like Belarus.

    We lost a great tradition along the way. Open the presents, prep the goose for the oven and head down to a sweaty, smoky arena to watch two pugs risk CTE to celebrate the Birth of Christ. Sounds amazing to me.
