Or do some research and find out that they are paid just as much. And also paid a hell of alot more than the average boxer. Do you have any idea how much top footballers get paid. They get paid rediculous salaries.
David Beckham went to the LA Galaxy because they offered him a stupidly large deal that only an idiot would have refused. This is a freak situation entirely concerned with marketing (Beckham's not even that good), not football. They had to offer ridiculously over-the-odds terms just to get him to consider it (and even then he ****ed off to AC Milan). The top leagues in Europe pay vastly more than major league soccer.
Well the NBA and NFL itself is changing, especially the NFL. You got guys that runs a 4.54 40 that are 6'6'', 296 lbs!!!!! If I was one of them then yes, id choose the nfl before boxing, Go to a good college program and make some noise, get drafted and guarantee a lot of money without even playing a down in the league. In boxing, one match can make or break your career. It takes a certain kin of toughness to box and kids are just hesitant to take that risk. Plus boxing takes a lifetime of dedication. Also boxing is not a high school sport. This kids can play pee wee football as soon as they are ready to walk..
'futbol' Most top FOOTBALL players earn a ****ing shitload. Ronaldo gets about 23 million Euro's a year.........without sponsorships and promotional crap.
And David Beckham signed a 5-year quarter billion dollar contract with the LA Galaxy...that in a country that does even like soccer. Please, know you ****.
Of course they do. And there's a reason for that, soccer is more popular in Europe. My point was that other sports pay much better than boxing without the obvious risks. A middling NBA or NFL player can earn millions. How much does and average heavyweight earn per fight? Twenty, thirty thousand dollars? How about Minto? What do you think he earned for the biggest fight of his life against Arreola on HBO. My guess would be a hundred thousand at the most. But if Minto had been an average linebacker or safety, he'd be earned twenty times that amount. The fact is that boxing just isn't that popular anymore and only the superstars make a good living. Whereas, in other US sports, even the average players earn far, far more than boxers. Tell me, what can big guys do in Europe to earn more than they could in boxing? They sure as **** can't be soccer players! What else pays as well as Europe. Answer that simple question and we can end this discussion. :hi:
Muhammad Ali, Cable Television, NFL, PPV/Promoters, NBA... UFC. in that order. For all of his greatness Ali is a grim reminder of the price paid for boxing. Cable came along and injected mega-money into sports. The NFL, with the injection of the money, was able to fund "farming" systems all the way down to 5 year olds. PPV and Promoters took boxing off of network television all but destroying casual interest in the sport. And the NBA? Though not many, I think a couple of the b-ball guys could have made fine boxers. Basically boxing invests NOTHING in itself. There are too many chefs in the kitchen. The NFL, NBA, and now the UFC are corporate monsters that put their survival above any one athlete. Some 80 year old boxing promoter is a shark that could care less about boxing. It is no coincidence that many of them are also lawyers. An any lawyer will tell you if you practice law to "do good" you are a fool.
Are you an idiot? Is the average footballer 250 pounds and 6 foot 5? What the hell does football have to do with heavyweight boxing? Is there another sport for large men in Europe that pays nearly as well as heavyweight boxing? That's the point. Use your head. :huh
Your the idiot that mentioned football, not me. By your logic europe would have no decent fighters in the lower weight groups.
I used that as an example of the popularity of sports in different countries. Fact is, Football or soccer has nothing to do with heavyweight boxing. How many 250 pound 6 foot 5 football players are there? The point is, there is no other sport in Europe that pays big men as well as boxing does. But comparison, there are two or three other sports where big men can now earn significantly more than they could getting their noses broken. THIS IS REALLY NOT THAT DIFFICULT! :nut
And how many champs does Europe have at the lower weights compared to North America? Is the light bulb on yet? atsch
Completely agree with you on the risk / reward thing. Don't need to argue it. Rugby. The top rugby players don't earn anywhere near what the top boxers do, but it's enough to earn a comfortable living. Interestingly enough, eastern europe has zero rugby tradition, which might tie-in with what you were saying. I think it's got a fair bit to do with erosion of boxing as a grass roots activity, though. In the UK, it's only the major cities that still have boxing gyms of note, with the exception of Enzo in South Wales who's main export was his own son.
I don't mean to argue every point, but I'm not sure that most rugby players are natural heavyweights, whereas most NFL football player are.
