I kinda miss the old JT, i remember when he beat Tim Litles when he was badly cut.. he literally had to knock Littles out and did just that.. Toney was awesome.. His last smart fight was against Holyfield but i do wanna remember James as a middleweight.. he was a truw warrior.. Just like Moorer was at light heavy..

Time stops for no-one, I keep reminiscing of the "old" Barrera, still dont want to think that we wont see that version of him ever again, although my dvd collection helps me out!

even as a middleweight jackie kallen had huge problems getting toney to train.

it is why kallen set up so many fights one after the other because she new she had to keep toney active and in the ring otherwise he would balloon up in weight.

toney was only one of the modern era fighters to take keep busy non title fights during periods when he is a champ simply because it was the only way of keeping him active and team toney new he had the abilty to get away with fights when he was not in shape.

i have seen toney fight as low as light heavy looking fat/bloated and soft, clearly not having done a single sit up, relying solely on talent, but not getting the best out of himself in loads of fights because he had to pace himself not in condition to finish hurt fighters off in case he gassed himself out.

great talent/old school mentality, but his own worst enemy.

how true, i remember James having an awful lot of non title fights as champ.. i wish he was as motivated as some lesser gifted fighters , he perhaps would have created a finer legacy than the aleady great one he aleady has..........

it makes me mad sometimes to see natural talent wasted on lesser driven athletes.........

I still remenisse on JT from the early 90's..

I said this on another thread recently: Toney+BHop's discipline=an ATG. But i suppose discipline is a talent as much hand speed or toughness is, though in another way, being that it's more trainable.

A super talented boxer but also a big fat biffa. If a fighter doesnt WANT to eat right, he wont.

I think he always wanted to be a heavyweight, could wait for it in fact, when realistically if he stayed off the pies for a bit he could have had a very succesfull career at Cruiser.

i think toney has always had training problems. seems like a guy that genuinely enjoys fighting, and thats why he does it. I heard somewhere that the only training he does is sparring.

Probably because the only road work he puts in is him chasing an icecream truck.

    I like Toney, he's a funny dude.
