The tournament bracket looked so beautiful when it was released
Such high hopes, such crappy realities

Only one guy has pulled out. If you didn't like this tournament as much as you thought you did its because you massively overhyped it in the first place.

We got Werdum / Overeem, a fight most where asking for. Fedor proved just how shot he is. Barnett reached the final whilst proving he is still a top 5 HW and is now going to fight against an undefeated opponent with the winner likely to get a crack at the UFC champ down the road. I have found it very entertaining, the only setback was Overeem leaving for the UFC but who is really complaining about Overeem / Lesner?

I've really enjoyed the tournament, both the idea and the reality. The only big disappointment in my eyes was the UFC pinching Overeem rather than let him complete the event then come to the UFC.

But Cormier vs. Barnett is still an excellent fight, one I'm looking forward to as much as Cain/JDS and Brock/Reem. Plus, both men are coming to the UFC afterwards, so the future is bright at heavyweight.

Says the Monday morning QB . Face it journo the UFC bought SF and it turned into an insignificant sack of **** that Dana didn't want in the first place.

    ^^^ Yep.

Looking forward to seeing Cormier come into his own. He's the future IMO.

He's the best surprise to come out of whats left of the tourny. Dudes like a heavyweight version of Dan Henderson. Except optimally he's a light heavy!!!?!?! :yikes Very talented guy.

How exactly did they do that? Only Three things have gone wrong with the tournament.

    1) The delay in the second-stage of the tournament (Werdum-Overeem, Barnett-Rogers) was already decided by Coker before the bailout due to the planned Japan show falling through and not being getting a venue in state that would license Barnett. So don't see what Dana White with this one.

    2) Overeem withdrawing from the tournament due to injury/contract situation with Golden Glory. Showtime were insisting on the date after being angered by the delay to the second stage of the tournament and the other half of the brackets needing fights. While it got consumed in the wider Golden Glory fallout its not entirely clear it was a powerplay by Zuffa. And they at least go for the best possible alternate in Daniel Cormier.

    3) Delay in the final due to Cormier's hand being injured. Can't see anyone blaming Zuffa for this - after all **** happens in fights. And in any case its not a huge delay.

So please Scura tell me (without resorting to insults) how the UFC has undermined the heavyweight tournament. Because from where I'm standing the only thing you could accuse them of doing is withdrawing exactly one fighter from the tournament.

If you recall you said it was 'massively over hyped'. That's hyperbole to the extreme. It was hyped and for a dam good reason. The best heavys in the world were in the tournament at the time.
It was also the first GP since PRIDE. A few months after the opening fights SF was bought.
Dana hated the idea of the GP in the first place and publicly went on record to say he did. Why would he want a fledgling organisation taking away the spotlight from his bread and butter? Either way the UFC swallowed SF and the GP has hit one bump after the next.
The main guy that everyone wanted to see it left via the back door for the UFC. You can make what ever excuses you like but Overeems exit from GG was a shysty move.
In the beginning there was much fanfare and momentum behind the GP. Now its an insignificant blip on the UFC's radar that neither they nor other fans care about.

First of all I didn't say it was massively overhyped. I said "If you didn't like this tournament as much as you thought you did its because you massively overhyped it in the first place". But please continue to ignore half my sentences so you can distort their meaning.

Secondly I'm still waiting for examples of what Zuffa do to ruin the tournament save the situation with Overeem. If the tournament field was so great, surely losing just one fighter wouldn't turn the tournament from "the best heavys in the world were in the tournament at the time*" to "an insignificant blip on the UFC's radar that neither they nor other fans care about".

*A laughable claim if I ever heard one considering Rogers and Arlovski's form going into the tournament.

    Riiiiiiight...

And yes you're correct. Fedor Overeem Silva Barnett are laughable.
I like the way you pick and choose whichever fighters form fits your agenda. Last i checked AA was a former UFC champion. Guess his credentials don't mean much any more.
