hmm. i remember some nuthuggers defending this as a superfight. there was even a thread about it. ey buxzer, do you have a link to that thread. if it made over 1m ppvs well and good. but superfight?? hmm. 120-107. this is the only figure that you need to understand guys. its like buying a car and getting a lemon.
samething happened to me tonight....i was at dominos to pick up a pizza and they were talking about mayweather-marquez....and one of them watched it.....this guy seemed clueless about boxing too... this fight sold big time....
ey, if it did good. clearly, it will be good for the economy although some buyers might have found the actual fight one sided and hence short changed. but heck, if it made money, it will be good for everybody. as they say, a rise in tide will raise all boats.
I disagree...ALOT OF Floyd fans know alot about the sport...if you really get down to it Blade I have seen many posters like Scar and Fitzgerald that put up good arguments in support of Floyd and his "picked opponents" etc...These same posters as well as some other Floyd fans put up good arguments when it comes to other fighters too UNLIKE CALZAGHE FANS AND KLITTIE FANS!!! NE WAYS JUSS PUTTIN MY 2 CENTS IN...JUSS THINK SOME OF YA'LL SHOULD GIVE "GAYWEATHER" AS U CALL HIM SOME CREDIT... GIVE IT TIME AND HE WILL FIGHT THE SHANE MOSLEY FIGHT OR THE COTTO FIGHT...EVEN BERTO WOULD BE COOL WITH ME....BUT HE JUSS CAME BACK OFF OF 19 MONTHS AND BEAT THE LW CHAMP OF THE WORLD AND YES IT IS A FIGHTER 2 DIVISIONS SMALLER BUT IT WAS STILL A GOOD TUNE UP FOR FLOYD NO MATTER WHICH WAY U LOOK AT IT..... Also maybe give him some credit for him calling out Shane in 2006...I know u might say that he didn't mean it or whatever but I watched him on an ESPN INTERVIEW with Brian Kenny on WED or FRI Nite fights (cant remember which) where he said ima beat Shane in November and Ima beat his boss after that...SO FLOYD DID TRY AND FIGHT THE BEST WELTERWEIGHT AT THE TIME INSTEAD OF CARLOS BALDOMIR BUT SHANE HAD A TOOTHACHE AND A VACATION TO TAKE WITH HIS PSYCHO CONTROLLING THAN WIFE...
dude, how the hell can you say it was a great tune-up when the scorecard said 120-107 which i think was the correct score also. how can it be considered a good tune-up when pbf was not in anyway bothered, tested, challenged or at the least engaged in competitively. i am a pac fan but i do not have any preference for either pbf or jmm. but i picked pbf to win at least by wide UD when this was fight was announced. with a TKO inside 8 a very good possibility. how in the world can you say this was a good tune-up without batting an eyelash. this was more like a sparring session. a good tune-up will have a score of about 116-112. not 120-107. to be honest, jmm already lost even before he climbed up the ring.
It was a great tune up for Floyd because he got actual FIGHT TIME in..ACTUAL ROUNDS....FLOYD WILL FIGHT THE MOSLEYS COTTOS PACS AND MAYBE EVEN A BERTO...BUT HE CANT FIGHT EM ALL IN 1 NITE...WHAT THE HATERS LIKE YASELF GONNA SAY WHEN FLOYD ACTUALLY SIGNS TO FIGHT MOSLEY OR PAC PROBABLY..UR GONNA HATE ON FLOYD CUZ HE TAKIN ON THE BEST FIGHTER IN PAC AND NOT THE BEST WW IN MOSLEY....DAMN SHAME THAT HE CANT GET PROPS FROM THE HATERS BUT I GUESS THATS CUZ ITS WHAT U DO AND WHAT U GOOD AT ...HATIN..
It made money due to hype. Mayweather's a con man. He hypes up his PPV and says there going to be extravaganzas when their nothing but uneven mismatches. Just because a lot of people bought into it doesn't mean it wasn't a piece of **** PPV which it was. I wonder how many people would buy another Mayweather PPV if it wasn't against Pac or Mosley?
But i thought Mayweather couldn't draw flies? I thought this PPV was gonna bomb. You lot just keep on back tracking, ur embarrassing yourselves even more.
okay the fight sold well, we get it but can you at least look from the other side of the argument? obviously the fight selling well helps the sport of boxing (popularity) however "mismatch fights hyped as a "superfight" .. is becoming a huge problem IMO as its too easy to just throw 2 big names together (Roy Jones vs Tito Trinidad) or even DLH/Pacquiao granted both of the above combined have much more name power then JMM and Mayweather but im still not a fan of the mismatch fight sure it sold well but look what kind of fight it is (a mismatch) and that should be taken into more consideration when bashing the people who didn't want this fight to do well.
