The thing is Katsidis fought a different fight from usual, and he didn't have a backup plan and true Brendan Smith(trainer) at this level is out of his league,it was clear he was losing and he didn't do one change, still give Mick credit,he fought his heart out and had his eye really closed in the last rounds
Yep,but not as bad as with Casamayor and Amonsot, that scar under the right eye which first apeeared in the Amonsot fight opened up again(that scar always will open up just by a few punches) and it swelled,he could barely see from his right eye in the last rounds and had a bad gash in his left eye and some bleeding from the mouth but fought like a warrior that he is
He had one good round early(2nd or 3rd),the 8th and you could find him 2 rounds(11th maybe) more to give him.By the looks of it Brendan Smith is out of his league
They should have had a second gameplan if the fighting a little smarter doesn't work, which for 8(or 9 or 10 depends on how you scored)rounds didn't work.Going into the 10th he should have said:''Mick, listen mate, were down and we need to get him out of here,go in there and KO him''.Yeah basically the gameplan was wrong, they didn't have a bachup plan and he was telling him that he was winning when he wasn't.On the other hand Smith is his trainer/MANAGER and he has been training Mick since he was 11 so I don't think he will sack him
Diaz worked Katsidis in this fight; Kat won 3 MAYBE 4 rounds, tops. That being said, I give much respect to Kat; he fought to the best of his abilities, but I think he shows where he peaks. I think he could make a fine name for himself (and already has, to a degree) as an Arturo Gatti-type--someone who fights well against anything up to about a B+-A- fighter, but can't crack the elite, although he will ALWAYS have a puncher's chance. And that's ok, boxing needs guys like that. It makes for an intriguing fighter. The Gatti metaphor can be extended a bit further in that he Kat can get ko'd and he seems to have a tendency to cut and swell. I for one will follow his career with interest and I think that he will pick up a belt or two along the way. Good on him. As for Diaz--I think he proved that he should be mentioned as one of the 2 or 3 best in a very, very deep division and also that you can have muffin tops and still be a competitive, high output fighter. BTW I read coming into this that Diaz had the shakier chin. I've seen Diaz fight about 5 times now and maybe I missed something but how can anyone call his chin shaky? I'm being dead serious did I actually miss something or was it just hate?
That judge that saw Katsidis winning should be fired. What fight was he watching? Seriously. Diaz outclassed him from here to eternity.
I was their, it was actually my 1st fight I've ever been too. And I have to tell you it was an awsome experience. I loved and enjoyed every minute of it. I thought it was badass when rocky came out to that young jeezy I put on, it was the perfect song for the hometown fighter. Also when they mentioned de la hoya was fighting manny the crowd started chanting margarito. As for the main fight it was badass both were moving in a real fast pace but juan did enough to win. I hope they bring more fights to Houston, it was the **** just drinking beer with my bro and watching the fight live... You just can't compare it to watching it at home.
