Maybe if he would've beat Bute himself. As it stands, nothing Bute does against Chunky has any bearing on Ward.
I wish Bute the best of luck in this bout! If he wins, I'll be surprised. Degale to me seems very tough and very confident. I'll be rooting for Bute!
Actually when Bute KTFO DeGale you'd best believe the Wards name will be the first from Bute's mouth. #COward.
List of fighters who have legitimately hurt Degale? Actually curious, haven't watched much of his :think
This is the only time I've seen him hurt. 25:01 [YT]FfeKcVD1O74[/YT] He was dropped by Darren Sutherland (RIP) in the amateurs though who admittedly was a big puncher and there was a rumour flying about that he was knocked out by Billy Joe Saunders in sparring, who is a MW and is definitely not a big puncher. I don't know if there's any truth to that but from what I can gather from Saunders' diplomatic reaction when quizzed about it is that he definitely either dropped him or bashed him up during one of their spars. The Pole who hurt Degale in that video is not a big puncher either. He's only stopped 10 of the 34 opponents he's faced. I actually think DeGale's chin is solid but even if we go on the premise that it's very solid and Bute's is ''glass'', are DeGale's whiskers more sturdy than iron man Librado Andrade's who Bute dropped hard with a big left hand? Bute dropped him with a head shot in their first fight too which the ref decided not to count. 1:09 mark [YT]Hwf8IK5iiB0[/YT] Is DeGale's chin more sturdy than tough guy Edison Miranda's? Bute has serious power and if he lands a shot like this on DeGale's chin I very much doubt it won't have the same effect on him as it did on Miranda. 1:27 mark (watch the replays at the end too) [YT]c3zdQrzaFIk[/YT] He sparked Jean-Paul Mendy out cold with a single left hand too. [YT]fv66ifzOxn0[/YT] That said Bute's best punch is obviously his counter left uppercut to the liver. He's stopped many of his victims with that shot. Done Andrade with it in their rematch (a single shot), effectively did the same to another iron man in Fernando Zuniga (Zuniga was rolling around on the canvas in utter agony for a good 15-16 seconds IIRC). Neither Miranda, Andrade or Zuniga have ever been disposed of the way Bute got rid of them and they've all fought plenty of good guys and big punchers along the way. Incidentally Zuniga fought DeGale too (a much more faded version of Zuniga) and lasted the full route against him. I actually favour DeGale in this match up and I wouldn't be surprised if he made a statement and got Bute out of there, maybe even early. Bute is a confidence fighter and he is just not the same fighter post Froch. All the momentum is with DeGale and he's very talented and can bang hard himself. His punches come from unpredictable angles and Bute has a tendency to freeze briefly when clipped which is especially dangerous against an opponent like DeGale who has fast hands and will be firing in 2s and 3s that are hard to see coming because of the speed and angles they come from. This was beautiful from DeGale 16:16 [DMV]x1zw80f[/DMV] He blasted out Periban with ease too, nobody has done that to him. 8:23 [DMV]x2au6yq[/DMV] That said, if Bute can somehow manage to get some of his confidence back and isn't gun-shy and actually lets his hands go, I wouldn't be surprised if he pulls it off. He definitely has the power to KO DeGale if he catches him clean with a big shot, to either head or body.
