Let me start by saying I think Canelo beats Cotto and GGG, but an interesting thought. Many people claim this resurgence by Cotto is a fluck and have excuses, so my question is what would you view be if he makes Alvarez look like Martinez and Geale and totally dominates and stop Canelo? Will people start to give credit to his MW run and acknowledge him as the best MW. How about a potential showdown with GGG, Cotto is clearly more skilled and experienced, only real question mark is if he can take a bigger puncher which would be proven if he destroyed Canelo. Would it make you reaccess your view of that bout??? Discuss.
I was thinking the same, but GBP is finished. Cotto won't get credit from BF24 posters because people will play the not a natural MW game even though they are both comfortable fighting at 155-156 or whatever. Canelo can't box. He can bang in the corners and all but Cotto will box him.
I would give some credit to his middleweight run if he destroyed canelo. even though lots of posters who support cotto would tear GGG apart for fighting a 'depleted Martinez', 'zombie geale', and dragging 'little canelo' up from light middleweight. If cotto fights GGG, even if he gets destroyed, then I'd give him real props.
I'm a big Cotto fan but I'm still not convinced about him at MW. If he beats Alvarez convincingly and then goes on to give an excellent account of himself against Golovkin, I will be convinced.
Still don't know if he'd be favored or should be favored, but if he "destroys" Canelo, then it becomes more interesting than it previously would have been.
GGG gets credit for fighting guys who lost to Martinez, so beating him and he'd be more hyped than he is now. Also every GGG fan is bigging up Canelo because they think GGG wins and need an Elite fighter on his resume to back up those claims. Geale is GGGs best win.
Not nesscarily Cotto is a HOF fighter and an elite, and while GGG looks good fighting on his level its totally different fighting on the elite level. If the fight in Nov is decided in devastating fashion, there is no reason why the winner shouldn't be picked to win. Plenty of guys look good knocking over journeymen and fringe contenders until they face actual elite fighters.
People are caught up in the hype, what logical reason is their that they shouldn't be favored other than GGG IMis koing fighters who are not on the elite level.
