It has nothing to do with hype. For those of us who followed Golovkin before Proksa, we know how good he is. Cotto is elite but that still doesn't take away from the fact that if he faces GGG, he would be facing a true MW, who happens to have a great skill set and obviously power he's never faced before. Whatever he does with Canelo, should he win, doesn't automatically transfer over to Gennady. It's a huge hill he would have to climb, and rightfully one that I and a significant amount of others, wouldn't see him ascending victorious.

There is a decent chance of that. Bookies think that it is about 1/3 or even higher. Canelo is overrated. He already lost to Trout and Lara. However, the only way for Cotto to beat him is to stop him or at least drop him multiple times. It is unlikely that Cotto will get a decision against Canelo in Vegas. Remember a 114-114 card against Mayweather, 117-111 against Lara and 118-109 against Trout ?

If Cotto wins, he will prove that he is actually a good super welter which his previous career at that weight wasn't showing.

i dont see how he is going to do it. he is not a better boxer than canelo, he is not naturally bigger, he is not younger, he is not faster, he is not stronger. his only advantage is his corner... and they wont be taking punchess for him.

even if he does he wont ever in a billion years fight Golovkin afterward so I'd rather see Canelo win because he probably would.

GGGs skills are a bit overrated he's basically just good power and footwork, very straight up and down no special effects to quote another.

Cotto is more skilled and experienced, not saying you exactly but GGG koing the Monroe's and Geales of the sport means he beats everybody, but if Cotto KOs Canelo he still only gets a drop of credit? How does that work.

You learn more from a fighter having competitive fight's vs actual elite than you do from a guy easily beating journeymen.

If Canelo lost to Lara and Trout in your opinion why are you for GGG-Alvarez and against GGG-Lara/Ward?
If he's so great wouldn't you want him to you know prove it. What the hell kind of fan is that.

    Stopped reading after acieg2.

The guy/girl is an awful poster, hes nothing more than a FloIV and Ward fanboy, the guy doesnt know **** about fights and about styles. I remember him/her saying Cotto(e) would beat GGG basing his entire premise on fighters fought instead of anlyzing a fighters weakness and strenghts. I'll just leave this terrible thread with this, Cotto(e) couldnt handle Margarito's pressure how is he gonna handle GGG's pressure?Hell even Pac was walking his azz down :rofl If this fights happens Cotto(e) is getting manahandled and will bend the knee again. I'm so confident i'll take a ban bet on it.:deal:yep

I'd give Cotto credit if he actually beat a middle AT middleweight!

The man is a sham now.

From boxing purity standpoint, I would rather see GGG vs Lara (unrealistic due to Haymon) or Ward (unrealistic due to Ward).

However, on paper Canelo has wins against Lara and Trout, and there are too many of fans who are all about resumes, so it will be more beneficial from resume standpoint to fight Canelo rather than Lara. Besides, of course, there is a HUGE difference in purses.

With Ward, I am all for that fight after Golovkin unifies MW belts.

Why don't you guys move on...!!!

Genady "Alfred E. Newman" is facing one of the toughest fights of his career at his weight...so, let's see what results and then talk!

Opie Canelo the "Red Headed Punching Bag" has never dominated anyone with boxing skills...nor has he KO'd anyone with a single punch!
He throws combinations which are very predictable!

:rofl.....excuse me while I regain my composure...:rofl....OK, seriously...what gives you the impression that it will be any different in this fight?

At the moment, my thinking is that, if Cotto ever fought Golovkin, it would almost be a replica of Cotto/Margarito I.

It will convince me 100% that Cotto is juicing. And it should convince everyone else of it as well. You don't go from badly losing to Trout to destroying Canelo that easily, there should be suspicion.
