CEOs are CEOs yep....but schaefer knows the business and built that company from the ground up....he knows boxing....he has fighters and employees that love him....and hes been successful in the game ever watch the movie about steve jobs and apple(aside from schaefer being liked and jobs being a price)? they removed jobs and brought in other CEOs to run the company...and they were out of their league and nearly ran the company into the ground until jobs came back and saved it schaefer goes...gb will suffer....thats a fact....bring in whoever you want....but it wont be the same
GBP will manage to find another CEO who at first may not know the ins and outs of the business like Schaefer does but who eventually may become better than him.
If GBP falls apart it will be no big deal. What happened when Sears fell apart? Then came Walmart. The same thing will happen in boxing, except it will be called Al-Mart.
Most people give credit to Richard for making golden boy what it is today. He is a great CEO who knows the business . . . Oscar is the face, Richard the brains. it is easier for Richard to find a face (floyd?) than Oscar to find the brain
In life, there is always a beginning, and there is always an end. Such is life. Al Haymon has a better business model and the old timers can't keep up. It is only right that he should replace the old with the new. The con man appraoch of Don King and Bi-polar Bob is over. Long live the new King!
agreed and SweetSci.....exactly....the old model is out....and it bothers bob....bob only knows one way for 40 years....and he loves fighters depending on him...he cant stand fighters that stick up for themselves and do it their way...he loves being the hand that feeds....hed prob cry if pac said hell work on a fight by fight basis...bob only knows one way "you need me"....
It is like the Internet and file sharing. The music and movie houses still operate on the old obsolete model. They can't conform to the new model so they attempt to block the progress by using lawsuits and dirty tactics. Same with Boxing promoters. The internet has changed everything and it's taking a big bite out of PPV sales. They are lost, don't know what to do but still use the old methods for promoting and selling fights. They are doomed to fail, simply because they are old and stuck in a paradigm from which they cannot escape.
