That's what I would love to see because I think if it happened and Cotto won it would do worlds for his confidence and possibly make him a better fighter.

JMM fights Cotto and becomes first Mexican to win titles in 4 weight classes then retires with a big fight at 140 against one of the beltholders to be the first one to win in 5 weight classes. Hopefully it would be PAc at 140.
That would IMO put him ahead of Chavez and probably in the top 20 ATG.

Damn its crazy how this guy was a nobody 2 years ago and now he is on the verge of becoming one the best Mexican fighters ever.

Ever since Pacquiao-2, there had actually been a decent case for him being p4p-2 behind Floyd (he was smaller than Manny and in most non diehard-Manny fans' eyes beat him in a close BUT CLEAR fight... i.e. close but it certainly should not have been split-decision close! -- and one judge was Lederman-level stupid... giving Manny the 12th - Tom Miller was it?).

Problem is, Manny being a fighter who has campaigned sooooo damn low before.. gets ultra-hype as this little guy going up through the weights.. but truth is up until he fought De La Hoya... he was bigger than almost everyone he faced (or at worst, in the right size-range for that weight class). People who see him in person & see his FULL physical stats often question how on earth can this guy make 'x weight'. But anyhow, DLH wasn't live... & Hatton was only a bit bigger in weight.. but Manny was bigger in MOST other areas! [just pointing out something ppl don't realize -- not that Manny wouldn't have smash'd Hatton if the stats were exchanged!]

Great fighter... but i'm talking about the SIZE question which always comes up about Manny being this Duran-like figure. He fights ppl who have campaigned at these 'higher' weights for longer & takes them out in spectacular fashion.

And so on account of this amazement at a guy who used to be fight at 112 (never mind superbantamweight) he gets the Duran-kinda respect as a guy going up n being significantly smaller than his opponents and blasting them... like Duran did, or more recently.. like Oscar did earlier in his career (yes, Oscar was tall but back then his frame was never really that big... it always a slight frame perfect for somewhere between 140 & 147; wasn't even a decent frame for light-middle until he stepped up to middleweight and then after a lil lay-off post B-Hop came back for Mayorga... THEN his frame was finally that of a light-middle!).

However, I say things must be taken without all this hysteric amazement & taken in context + more analytically.

Marquez, while a weight-class or even 1.5 weight classes smaller than Manny, beat Manny & then from then on actually outdid his feats vs. live fighters who made no blunderous mistakes (like Oscar did with the weight, first -- whether he could have ever boiled back down to 147 and been live is another matter -- & like Hatton did abandoning the gameplan + trying to get after it w/o any head movement or real intent to jab + set it up).

If you're of the view that Marquez beat Manny in their 2nd fight, like many are (and incidentally, I am)... then if you keep that in mind and compare:

wins over David Diaz, The Living Dead Oscar & Ricky 'The Abandon The Plan Man' Hatton.

    vs.

win over long-time 135lb great Casamayor & consensus best-lightweight Juan Diaz in fights where Casamayor & Juan Diaz actually looked pretty good!

then keeping all this in mind plus Marquez being smaller & still able to make 130 at the time.. while Manny no longer being able to after putting on 3 lbs more lean mass post-Marquez2... then yes, there is a case that Marquez should've been (just ahead) of Manny [despite not as spectacular & main-stage as Manny's last 2 fights] & once Floyd retired should've then been p4p no-1.

JMM will fight Pac. That is his goal, to get that third fight. Cotto might try to for Margo, PBF, or Shane.

I think that if Marquez wins he will fight Pac for a Mega fight at 140 lbs. Cotto will fight a manadatory challenger and then defend his title against Shane or Margarito.

What happens if Marquez and Cotto both win? :think

Then we can get to see Pac-JMM III - but only after JMM lets Pac chase HIM for a while as HE will be the man of the moment.

A Cotto win over Pac isnt on the same level as a JMM win over Floyd, not a chance... but on the brightside, more pacfucs can commit suicide & Cotto can finally get recognition for his hard work on a worldwide level.

    :good

If Marquez and Cotto both win:

PAC retires and enter politics in his home country... Floyd's big mouth retires again for the nth time...

Then Marquez and Cotto will fight each other...
