Whats funny is that Ray Mercer would have easily been beaten by any top 50 MMA fighter by taking him down. Tim Sylvia flopped big time here.

That giant got Mercilessly knocked the F out by Ray but I think I read somewhere or somebody told me that they had a gentlemen's agreement not to do certain MMA stuff like maybe no takedowns or even kicks, this was apparently because they had the fight licensed for set MMA rules.
So really your seeing what happens when a heavyweight boxer boxes an MMA guy. Allegedly.

This isn't surprising in the least. The 1st punch landed puts him to sleep.

That's what happens when you come out throwing lazy kicks and stand in front of someone like Mercer while flat footed, your chin out in the air.

Here's what happens when a low level MMA fighter takes on Mercer and uses some common sense.

Yes, that fight and also Randy Couture vs Toney showed how MMA fighter must fight boxer by MMA rules. Don't try to box vs a boxer :)

I read somewhere they agreed to have a striking matchup with no grappling.

Especially if you're someone like Sylvia who even when prime moved like he was on stilts and was susceptible to getting hit and stopped early even against MMA guys. I think guys like Cro Cop, JDS and a couple of others could outbox and stop a shot Mercer. Not Sylvia though.

Sylvia must be stupider than he looks, how do you get talked into a fight with a pro boxer and have no mma rules.

Tim Sylvia was a black sheep UFC champ. All the hw talent was in Japan at that point.

The fight before the Mercer fight, Tim was ko'd by Fedor in 30 seconds.

Toney should never have got in with Couture until he'd some basic td defense and probably some basic idea how to pull guard if he was on the deck.
