He was a very gutsy fighter, although not elite but very near. I remember his war with European champ Mendy, which he destroyed in 5 rds at a time Mendy himself was butchering all his counterparts. This content is protected This content is protected
He had great boxing IQ and stamina. I heard a rumor that Tszyu beat him up so badly that on of Miguel Angel's kidneys permanently shut down after the fight. Sounds like BS, but then again, that was a terrifying beating.
Was ringside for the Mendy fight . He was considered to be the new Chavez . Tremendous fighter who should never have went up in weight to fight Oscar career-wise , money however was too good to pass up . Never recovered from the Tszyu beatdown .
Tszyu fight was in 1999 and Miguel retired in 2006 at 36. So he did recover but was too old for the lighter weight classes to comeback. Plus he had many wars before the Tszyu one which added to his fighter clock.
