My first thought was Pacquiao vs. De La Hoya.

Reason: you rarely see a fight where one mainstream star passes his mainstream status to another. This had one of the last stars of the 20th century in his final fight against a little action fighter known within the boxing community but not outside of it. You could feel a changing of the guard as you were watching.

Don't think so, don't think anything could match (a) the intensity of the fight while it lasted and (b) the shock and brutal KO ending.

Rj vs Ruiz was big, but many hardcore fans never gave Rj credit for not facing the real HW king at the time, Lennox Lewis! Which coulda been suicidal, but you never know. Still, great accomplishment.

I agree with what a poster said recently the Marquez-Pacquiao rivalry just kept getting better and better and each time each fight became more historical than the last. The 4th fight will be the one talked about 100 yrs from now. A truly great, significant fight.

It's probably either Lewis-Vitali or Floyd-De La Hoya.

    Hopkins vs. Pascal II

    Jones vs. Tarver II

...two of the more significant, at least.

I know you are troll but i must tell you Lacy is nothing fighter totally irrelevant in history, just for example MAB schooling Hamed is far greater win.
Win over Hopkins and Kessler are much better but YDKSAB!

    Add a poll.

I would probably say Lewis-Tyson to be honest. Yes the fight was too late but it was 2 of the biggest stars the HW division has ever seen. That, and it was a HW fight.

Close 2nd for me would be Hopkins-Trinidad.

Becoming the oldest man to ever win a championship in boxing isn't among the most "historically significant" happenings of the last 14 years?

    Interesting opinion, that one...

It may not be one of the best victories in that span, and isn't, but it certainly is one of the most significant.
