they keep saying fight promotes itself but we'll see, they may have this wrong. Also, charging $100 for PPV doesn't f help, many boxing fans will not watch it because of this. It's truly pathetic to make this over $60, irrespective of demand. at some point you need to make it affordable for those boxing fans who really want to see the fight. This is turning off many fans...

then there is this issue about tickets not even being available for sale yet, 3 weeks before fight? Arum was apparently throwing a fit about this, claiming that MGM hadn't even sorted out tickets, hotel rooms that would go to MGM and promoters, that no contract was yet signed. Arum was irate noting that he had never seen such a thing in 50 years of promoting. Ellerbe shot back claiming all is ok but then had to send Arum a draft for review? wtf, 3 weeks before fight?

sounds to me like promoters and everyone are a bit overconfident and really lax about the whole thing. This is being lead by shady characters like Ellerbe who should've never been allowed to be main promoter here. Arum is much more experienced and it's amazing he's not lead promoter.

i won't have a problem paying the 100 or going to a sports bar with friends. I will watch this fight. I can tell you though, that some people i've asked about the fight have basically told me 'f that fight, $100'

trust me, many will not watch because of this, some just out of principle and not because they cannot afford it. What this price is absolutely doing is cutting off non-hardcore boxing fans. Hardcore boxing fans will pay, unless they don't have the money.

I agree. They are botching this entire thing. 3 weeks out and tix aren't available. People who are going to spend 5-10k on tickets will want to book a room and air too.

And I think they made a big mistake not actually even promoting the fight AND charging $100 for ppv.

They should have done a press conference at 1 month out and another 2 weeks out to get in the news.

when you have Mayweather promotions as lead promoter for the biggest fight in history, it's a problem. Mayweather promotions hasn't been lead promoter for any big fight. I blame Ellerbe and Floyd for most of this. Arum has been a promoter for like 50 years and involved in some of the biggest fights ever; it's really mind boggling how Arum is not lead promoter. It shows what a piece of **** Floyd can be, he should've let Top Rank be lead promoter but his ego got in the way.

In any event, i think fight will generate records but the way it's being handled, especially this last minute issue with tickets and hotel rooms is unprofessional and to me, mind boggling for such a huge event.

I agree. Ellerbe is a joke and clueless. This fight will obviously blow away the gate records(if they ever decide to sell the tickets) but I think it is in danger of NOT beating the PPV record. $100 ppv cost and no promotion is a bad combo. If you want to charge $100 you better do some promo.

Top Rank should have been lead promoter but as you said Floyd would never dream of letting that happen.

The fight is HUGE, it sells itself, no need for promotion.
