What has happened to Tuas' power?

Have you ever heard that when you get older you lose some abilities? Tua is 39 and hasn't fought in top level for many years and you really have no idea why he is not looking so powerful that he used to? :huh

 

Power is the last thing to leave a fighter.

It was only 3-4 fights ago where he blasted out Shane Cameron in 2 rounds.


IF a fighter fights defensively or are there simply to survive, you're not going to knock them out. Look at some of the Klitschko opponents who look only to survive. Does that mean Vitali's or Wladimir's powers are waning?

 

Vitali's power has clearly declined since his big layoff. His punches don't have that same powerful snap to them anymore, and neither do Tua's.

That whole "power never leaves a fighter" thing is a myth because I can think of a few examples of shot to **** power punchers who couldn't land anyone near as hard at the end of their careers as they could in their youthful primes. Antwuan Echols is another good example.

 

just like at the end of the road for Tyson, he was landing big body punches without results on McBride, Williams... Its just the end for Tua sad but true

 

I actually think it's his speed and combination punching COMBINED with his power that used to get him the KOs. He's lost his speed, and with it went the combination punching.

Thats what you are seeing. He can prolly still blast out anyone if he hits them with one shot they don't see coming... its just that now he can't set those shots up as well anymore...

 

Tua looked good. His opponent is a very durable and MASSIVE heavyweight. Good fight if you ask me considering Tua has been doing this for close to 20 years.

 

tuas power is derived form speed this is what he is lacking

he fights the youth style, sure hes still powerful but hes a slow small HW now

 

Tua is a born puncher, punchers won't last forever - also in case you didn't notice most of the HWs of today is 7 feet tall and weight at 250 lbs.

Tua has been fighting tomato cans on PPV for too long for it not to have an effect on his abilities. Too old, too fat & too slow. His level of competition is about what you'd expect from a guy who's just starting in the pros. The fools who pay money to see him fight are only fueling his demise.

 

It used to be said that Tua couldn't get a decision. In his last three fights, he's had two UD and a draw. But I certainly understand your point. I raised the question to his trainer, Chris Martin, who said that Tua still had plenty of power, but that wasn't the game plan for King. He wanted Tua to work on being more active, more combos, more angles. And he did.

It'll be interesting to see if he brings his power in his next fight. He's supposed to fight Barrett in July, assuming his promoter, Cedric Kushner, can meet Barrett's financial demands. If not, CK goes looking for another opponent.
