What has Marquez done to receive such a high rating?

..on the pound for pound lists?

I've seen tons of lists where he's rated as high as 1 or two. Why? He did get the W over Barrera in an extremely competitive fight with a lot of close rounds.. only for Barrera to get absolutely smoked by Pacquiao after that.

I know he had two fights with Pacquiao that were very close and many felt he even won. But still..the record books still say he lost.

I'm not doubting his ability as a fighter, he's fantastic but it just makes me scratch my head when I see him ranked so high. Calzaghe should definitely be rated higher, in my opinion.

you gotta lok at the weights he has gone up through and dominated right up to LW. he has held his own and drawn with pacquiao, so in theory is as good as the number 1 pound for pound fighter.

I don't know.. perhaps because of his talent? I can't really say.. he is a great fighter, however.

Calzaghe should be and is rated higher. However, Marquez has had two very good fights with Pacman. MAB didn't put up much of a fight against Pac, but he didn't exactly get smoked and could've made it interesting if he had any kind of motivation. JMM also was robbed against Chris John and dominated every fighter besides Pac and MAB. Plus he dealt Casamayor his only KO loss.

Depends on how you see his bouts with Pac I guess. I had the first fight a draw, a win for Marquez in the rematch, and I came out with the impression that Marquez was the better fighter, if only slightly.

I think Calzaghe is the best in the world, but not based on accomplishments.

Barrera fight brought him into the top 10

Paquiao SD loss brought him to top 5

Casamayor win brought him into the top 3 or 2

He should be behind Calzaghe, this seems obvious to me.

There is something in the "loss" and draw to Pacquiao. If this guy is a clear number one and he has live and death battles with him, its only fair he's ranked accordingly. We can't just take records purely on face value and ignore all of the detail, Calzaghe's must look fantastic with wins over Hopkins and Roy Jones back to back, huh?

Let's not forget he did very well against Casamayor too, as well as the close fight with Barrera. Overall this body of work seems deserving to me, I can't see anybody more deserving of a number 3 placing.

Why is he ranked "CURRENTLY" over Joe? You are joking right? Compare Joes last three fights with Marquez's last three and you will be reminded why.
    Marquez:
    Barrera
Pac, won in almost everyones opinion
Casamayor, Moved up to 135 to win a tittle.
Joe: has two wins over 40+ year old legends and a decent win over kessler

Alright, I guess it does depend on the Pacquiao fights. Pacquiao is the consensus Pound for Pound king and Marquez did keep it close in both fights, so I guess I can see a case here..
