What has Marquez done to receive such a high rating?

There were some that picked Jones to be fair about this.

    Really they did.

Every single knowledgable poster on this fight picked Calzaghe. Even though some desperately wanted Jones to win.

P4P isn't about records - it's about talent, skills, and your competition.

Even a close lost will keep someone of very good talent that's ranked in the P4P listing - will keep them in the P4P list depending on who they fight. Such as B-Hop and Calzaghe. The fight was close and even though B-Hop lost - you can't take much away from him - especially when he turns around and beats the hell out of Pavlik.

This is probably the main reason that Marquez stays on the list. His fights with Pac-Man were very competitive and his body of work is very impressive - not to mention he beat the **** out of the Ring Magazine Champ.

If Joe would have beaten Pavlik who was a top10 P4P at the time, I would have rated him above Marquez, but since he did not take the chance too bad. Instead he took on RJJ who could not take out a shot 154 punder in 12 rounds named trinidad.

One of those 40+ legends is a still very live B-Hop who just embarrassed "The Messiah" Pavlik in his last fight, and his win over Kessler was more than decent as the viking warrior is a strong, talented, young fighter.

Only because BHOP exposed him and for that he is now ranked higher. Who knows maybe Joe would have gotten stoped, the fact is Joe did not take the risk and instead he went for the low risk high reward fight and thats why I believe hes #3 not #2.

He has not dominated all the weight divisions he has been in.

Barrera didn't get absolutely smoked by Pac. I can think of about 6 punches that landed cleanly between the two of them. Barrera wasn't in much of a "fighting mood" that night.

He has a strong resume recently. Guys like MAB, Casa, Rocky Juarez, Pac and Juan Diaz in the last 4-5 fights are better than anything else anyone has non-Manny Pac or Bernard Hopkins.

I rate JMM number two because of his competetive fights with Pacquiao as well as his technical skills. Skillwise, he's probably the best in the world. Seriously, pound for pound skills, who'd you pick JMM or Calzaghe?

You should also weigh in the fact that he lost to Chris John only 2 years ago. Plus, it's not as if Barrera and Casamayor aren't completely faded as well. The best things on Marquez's resume are a draw and a loss to Pacquiao.

On ESB there was a poll with well over 300 votes and less than half the people think MArquez won the 2nd fight

As for the thread topic. p4p is the list of the best fighters in the world. JMM can easily make a case that he is a better fighter than Calzaghe

I agree with everything but the last part.

I think Marquez is the best in the world, but not based on accomplishments.
