    lets see :

1 - he started boxing at 20 years old
2 - had a tough road until he became known
    3 - he's humble
    4 - seems like a good person
    5 - he's a smart dude
6 - has an exciting style ; good athleticism for his age and K.O power
    7 - his resume : beat

I don't know any MW from this era that has a better resume and boxing accomplishments than Martinez ! :yep

p.s not to mention that Martinez isn't a genuinely sized MW , he's more of a big jr MW who fought genuinely MWs !

Chavez jr. is a bum but he's a massive bum. It was a great victory because he was able to dominate a man 20 + pounds heavier.

The fact that he's the best MW in the world right now just shows how weak the MW division is.

He is easily below PBF, Pac, Ward, Donaire. Arguably below Wlad, JMM and Bradley. So he is anywhere from 5-9. Top 3 is ridiculous. Donaire has looked more dominant agaanst better competition and his KO over Montiel>Martinez KO over PW and DOnaire didn't lose to Montiel either. Donaire also has another one of those with Darchinyan. PBF, Pac and Ward is a no brainer.

Kelly Pavlik is a member of a very exclusive club. He is one of only 5 men in history who won the real middleweight championship while still undefeated. Pavlik is also the only opponent who ever beat Taylor by decision. Hopkins tried twice, but failed. Winky tried, and failed. Pavlik succeeded where an ATG and a futre hall of famer failed.

Most ESB posters could benefit by watching Martinez/Pavlik a couple more times. Rounds 3-8 Martinez got his ass kicked. He spent much of rounds 6-8 running for his life with a look of abject terror on his face, and his corner was FREAKED OUT! He found a way to adjust, came back and won in impressive fashion.

The crap that went on after Williams/Martinez I was nonsense. Sergio lost that fight . . . PERIOD! In the rematch he destroyed PDub in two rounds!

Starting with Williams, Sergio knocked out 4 top 10 middleweights in a row!

In his latest outing, Sergio won 11 of 12 rounds against his #1 contender.

He did all of this AFTER hitting his mid thirties!

I'm not really a fan, but if you'r not impressed by Sergio's accomplishments, maybe you should forget boxing, and go watch professioanl shuffleboard.

for me its a combination of things.

1- his ability to adjust thoughout a fight
    2- his speed
    3- his boxing skills
4- his brawling on occassion on top of his skills
    5- his foot work
6- his consistency in fighting top tier opponents and his willingness to call out the other big names for a fraction of the fight purse
7- he is giving boxing a relatively good name

Chavez Jr was called a bum, sure. But not before he fought Martinez but before he started stepping up his competition. And I was one of the ones that doubted Chavez Jr but as soon as he stared to beat Zbik, Rubio and mainly in the fashion that he beat Lee, the fight with Martinez wasn't a one sided as it was before Jr beat all those mentioned. So yes, beating Pavlik, Williams, Barker, Macklin, and Jr are what makes him that good.

People will try to rip apart his resume claiming Plavlik was drunk (not Martinez fault) that Williams was "overrated" (ranked in the top 10 P4P when he fought Martinez etc. etc. but that can go both ways as EVERY boxer's resume can be picked apart by haters of that particular boxer.

Pavlik win will define his career.

PW win was flashy, but lets face it, Paul was always a sucker for the left hand and his only defense against it was using his face.

What's not to like? Since he broke into the world scene he's fought solid opposition the whole way (save maybe Barker) and looked impressive in nearly every fight. He's also exciting stylistically and has beaten some big names he was underdogs against in P-Dub and Pavlik. He's also a natural JMW ruling the MW division.

  13. Just because someones opinion varies to your own, it does not mean they do not know boxing. Pavlik was in a dark place at the time Martinez and he met and Pavlik should get more credit for that fight than Martinez.
Lets look back a D vs Citron a Loss Vs Williams then a W Vs Pavlik, Williams and the Bum fighter Dzinziruk. We then had Barker who had not fought anyone of note like Makclin. As for Chavez well it is common knowledge on all boxing sites and forums he was the most protected fighter out there.. Now let me travel back 5 years ago Martinez was fighting Pavel Florin Madalin

I rest my case Martinez is an OK fighter Ranked P4P way to high for the quality of opposition available

Was rated there by The Ring and most others. Name everyone who you'd have put above him at that point in time.
