1) Hopkins is one of the best fighters ever. Unbelievable defense, effective agression, tough as nails and SMART. Amazing fighter. 2) Pavlik NEEDS to go back to 160. This was a dumb fight for him to take. Now he needs to go back to where he has power. 3) Pavlik needs to add complexity to his game. He's a tough, hard hitting kid who can still dominate the middles. But he needs to learn to handle different styles. Hop gave him a crash course in that last night. He should get his confidence back with a few winnable fights and then take on fighters with different styles (Spinks?) 4) Holy **** is Calzaghe ever good. He beat the guy who schooled Pavlik. Pav will stay away from Calzaghe if he's smart. This fight cemented in my mind Calzaghe's place in P4P. He has tools that other fighters don't and a will to match. 5) People overreact. No Pavlik was not EXPOSED in the sense that many contend. He's not washed up, he's not a bum. He was overhyped, fighting too heavy and needs to learn more skills to have options in the fight. But it's not all that bad for him and if he's a champ he'll learn from this and adjust.
I learned that when Hopkins has Nazim Richardson training him and in his corner he performs beatifully and hes in fantastic shape. Is it just coincidences or were the Wright and Calzaghe fights the worst performance and ugliest, boringest fights of his career? Im not saying any names, but all I can say is go Hopkins and his real trainer.
I think people learned that you should never overlook Hopkins and that you shouldn't even think about stopping him.
Wrong. It means something. It doesn't prove anything definitively (ie, Taylor beat Hop twice and lost to Pav twice), but it does speak well to Calzaghe's abilities. No denying that.
it just shows how big the gap is between the elite fighters (calzaghe, hopkins) and fighters like pavlik:bbb
How in the **** did what you just say make sense. The fact the JT beat Hopkins twice and Pavlik beat him twice and Bhop just beat the snot out of Pavlik. You have no point. Maybe if none of that happened then you have a point. And we all know that fighters dont look there best NOT b/c of the other guy all of the time. Bhop said he felt the best in that fight. Not that Pavlik was just worse then all the other guys he fought which is not the case. I bet Bhop was less dominate against lesser guys then Pavlik. Bhop was on his A+ game. He was not on his A game against Calzaghe. PERIOD.
I think that last night's performance is one of the best in modern ring history, all things considered. But we need to calm down a bit. At lest let the dust settle.
What I actually SAID was that, while I agree you can't look at other fights like Taylor/Pav Taylor/Hop to determine absolute ranking, you can say pretty definitively that Calzaghe is obviously a great fighter to have beaten Hopkins. PERIOD. A lesser fighter wouldn't beat Hopkins even on an Hop off day, PERIOD. Here's a tip: Read the comment before responding. It reduces confusion and could help to lower your obviously high blood pressure.
bhop was stunning last night - either because he'd improved since calzaghe or pavlik was too green or bhops style plain neutralised pavliks. At least the "calzaghe is a no one until he fights pavlik" talk should stop now and everybody must concede that it does add gloss (of varying amounts admittedly, to nuthuggers and haters alike) to his close decision win over the old man. Hopkins "pulled a lacy" on pavlik last night, so well so in fact that it should be referred to as "pulling a pavlik" from now on
