Curious on what people on ESB done on grass roots level or higher to increase the sports popularity

Myself I took to writing and interviewing our athletes. Also, anytime I get a chance I discuss the sport with people I come into contact with. Show them fights and its amazing how receptive people have been.

I am sure we have many other stories here on the ESB forums

i have introduced friends to the sport and take them to places that show fights and some now follow the sport

i know thats not really a difference maker but its nice to have ppl to talk fights with

but to be honest i kinda like boxing to be reduced to hard core fans because then if you talk boxing with someone they actually know their ****

Talk to friends about the sport and invite them to places that are showing a good fight.

Talk about it constantly, took my friends boxing (though short lived), watched fights with them (though they fall asleep a lot)

Only thing it needs is to get some of the big fights back on 'free' TV. The rest takes care of itself after that.

Seriously though every major fight invite most of my friends to watch them, talk to them about it constantly, recommend them entertaining fights, probably the same thing most of us do.

I even joined a facbook group Bogotazo made and started inviting people to join it.

i think thats the major problem with boxing

ppl say 4 belts promoters ppv blah blah blah

i think if there was weekly boxing on free non cable channels 2-10 youd see interest come back

the main reason why boxing is hurtin here is because most ppl dont have HBO and Shotime

plus boxing isnt on TV every week like other sports

put it on TV a lot ppl will tune in and learn

  11. I, along with Kevin "THE KINGPIN" Johnson, started a charity-- P.U.N.C.H. to aide and assist children stricken with illness.

I do public relations for numerous boxers in the Atlanta Georgia / Southeast region.

Along with Josue Blocus, Michael Grant, Kevin Johnson and numerous other boxers, we go to different schools and have learning parties (math, reading, etc) with the students and teachers.

And on a lighter note, I talked Mia St. John in to posing for Playboy &I made a sex tape with Elena Reid.......:deal

cannot go for more than 5 minutes without making some sort of boxing comment or reference, even to people that have no intention in following the sport

    Nowhere near enough. :sad2

Whenever random lay people try to talk to me or someone else within earshot about boxing, it's just too depressing to bother engaging them. There's so much ignorance and misinformation out there, it just doesn't seem worth it to try and correct all the bull**** and try to convert the unwilling with all their preconceived notions.

:conf I really only want to discuss the sport with people who are already fans of it, which is somewhat insular and masturbatory (but obviously not a big problem for me, going by my post count )

It's a teeny tiny, marginal niche sport at this point and will probably remain so for the duration of my lifetime. I accept that...and am OK with it...and actually kind of prefer it, elitist snob that I usually am in all walks of life.
