well you begin by naming the books that make these claims,

because everything I've read talks about his toughness, brute strengh and endurance, but that he had poor technic and no gameplan.

Well, I'd start with Isenberg and Pollack.

I would say Valuev but, I would never stop laughing. It might induce a heat attack. So, I won't say Valuev. This time. If I were betting on an outcome, I do not believe there's a guy I would bet to stop him. Louis would be most possible, to me. Faster than Foreman and Liston.

People would actually pick Tyson to stop a prime Holyfield.

I really don't buy that either. He got stopped by a significantly declined Holyfield who was coming off a series of subpar performances and only went on to follow the Tyson fights with more subpar performances. Evander would always rise to the occassion against any version of Mike, especially one who was still good enough to blow through than relevant contenders and belt holders Mathis Jr., Bruno, and Seldon like noone else at the time. Nobody was claiming he was a shell of himself until after Holyfield upset him. Even after the fact, he picked up a strong comeback win over Botha and in 2000 bobbed and weaved his way around Golota for a quick trashing.

Rex Layne comes to mind....but if you want to sidetrack and bash Marciano, the only topic you have demonstrated any kind of sustained passion, start another stupid thread or dig up one of your old ones. Let the boxing fans discuss Holyfield.

Tyson's punch output was higher, more accurate, and more sustained in his prime. He wasnt just a one handed head hunter and his timing and counterpunching was far superior than it was in 96.

And in 91 Holyfield wasn't a flat footed, mouth breathing, plodding injury ridden mess either. Evander was off the map and considered "done" in 96, while Tyson was still breezing through alphabet champs and contenders.

I know all that, but I think Evander didnt fight as smart as he later did, and I dont think he would imploy the same type of gameplan he did against Tyson in 96. He was going to war with the likes of Dokes, Cooper, Stewart and Foreman, and I just think that would have been suicide against a prime Tyson, he was just too fast and hit too hard, but thats my opinion.

He also boxed fairly smart in the second Bowe fight, and actually in most of the Foreman fight too. In 94-95, he was in an ugly wars with Bowe and Mercer and not long after the Tyson fight he slugged it out with fatboy Moorer. Just typical inconsistent Evander.
