who is compared to Louis? The bomber is posibly the best inch perfect fighter ever seen on film at his best. still, veteran max schmeling topped prime Louis proving you can never be sure who "aint worth ****" or not.
As of today Ali Holmes Dempsey Liston Tyson Louis Frazier Walcott Foreman Tunney I know- I know I commited a crime by not including Rocky, Johnson and Lewis on this forum but oh well I just dont see it.
Walcott over a guy who KO'd him twice in Marciano? Over a champ like Lewis who plowed through the hardest hitting era of the sport, beating every man he faced? A guy in Tunney who fought at heavyweight a handful of times over Marciano, a guy who won 7 championship fights at the weight? To each his own, but I would like to see your explanation.
My criteria isnt based on records. Its based on pure fighting skill. If Walcott fought Rocky at say 30 yrs of age I feel he would have won. Tunney = super skilled and as much determination as anyone. Lewis in my oppinion didnt fight anyone who I felt was great at least when he fought them. To me he lacked heart and had a shakey chin.
so you rate on potential not on deeds? At 30 years of age walcott was a part time fighter taking his chances as "the opponent" still waiting for his big break. abe simon beat him proberbly because joe was not a money fighter with his own training camp. If you think an untapped talent working full time on garbage trucks who would take the odd club fight on his night off was at that time an ATG I dont know what to say. Lewis was not always fun to watch but his record stands up, proving he was the best right across his own era and the last man standing. It has to count if you include tyson who had a 3 year peak against "the lost generation" of Holmes rivals, liston who had 4 good wins and tunney who beat an inactive champion who nearly knocked hm out.
