Rigo is back! He recently beat some pushover to get back on the horse. Don't think he will regain his P4P position anytime soon though, because he has signed with (in his words) "the guy that keeps his fighters busy" Al Haymon
Oh jeez, so considering his age and the fact that he won't be fighting anytime soon, basically Rigo is effectively retired
I've always felt that Rigo still has so much left. To me he is the only one who can clearly beat Josh Warrington (Santa Cruz may be able to, but never achieve a CLEAR win) He just met Loma, and losing to him is perfectly fine. Loma is just too good for everybody now. And as we saw with Spence vs Garcia at the weekend, it was just one step too far. The same applies to this. It doesn't mean Rigo is a bad fighter. In fact he's still one of the most talented active fighters. I'm sure everyone would put him in their top 10 of active fighters in regards to talent alone. He's very old, but he has one thing the others don't. For all the speed, stamina and size that the others have over Rigo, he has a truck load of experience to make up for it. And that's why I believe he outpoints all of the top featherweights. I think the Loma loss had an effect on Rigo. Sort of how it had an effect on Brook after the loss to Spence. He will have come out of that bad feeling now, and he is ready. I'm sure of it. And if he is ready, he will crash the featherweight party. (If he chooses to pursue the featherweights, I hope he does)
His name is recognized by boxing fans, so I think PBC will add him (against god knows who) when needed to make their boxing events more appealing. Other than paying him for that, I doubt anyone will really care about him personally in terms of his career.
Chakal the most feared man in boxing. Looks to me anyone would love that name on their resume. But nothing to hear but crickets. The last two guys that fought him were destroyed. Nobody wants any Rigo action. This man is feared. Honestly i have never seen anything like it
Are we talking about the same Rigo here, who's 1-1-0-1, 1KO in his last 3 fights and the one win coming against a journeyman who's 2-8 in his last 10?! Don't get me wrong, Rigo is very good despite his (obviously higher as advertised) age, but the shine is gone. Same goes for Lara at the moment.
If he's going to continue boxing then he needs to develop some urgency about him pronto because he ain't getting any younger and the Loma fight already feels like it was a looong ass time ago.
He came out of hiding in January and blasted out a chap named Giovanni Delgado in a round. Delgado lasted the distance against a 15-0 Joseph Diaz, a 12-0 Diego De La Hoya, into the 4th against a 16-0 Emmanuel Rodriguez, the 7th against a 14-0 Brandon Figueroa, and the 3rd against a 17-1-1 Joshua Greer Jr. Delgado has never been blasted out like this and he had over 6lbs on Rigo as well.
