Ok , maybe you guys all are gonna disagree with me but anyway...

I would love to see a wimbledon equivalent , only in combat sports.

Don't get me wrong , i'm not saying that i want participants to fight on the grass  ... No , i'm talking about the elimination system they have in this sport.

    For ex ,

We start a "grand prix"....(Like pride fc used to do)...

Let's say we have the following participants...
    yvel
    lesnar
    werdum
    kharitonov
    crocop
    kongo
    fedor
    overeem
    gonzaga
    barnett

Now , imagine this , only on this scale....
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Wimbledon_Championships_-_Men's_Singles#Seeds

Of course , since fighters need to rest (and they'll need more than just a a few days).... this combat grand prix system would also have several editions (just like pride fc used to do) , to give fighters a few months to rest....so the entire thing would almost last a year or maybe 6 months...and would determine the best fighter of 2010...

And of course , participants would not only come from the ufc but also from dream , affliction , Strikeforce etc.....etc..

It's more or less what pride used to do , only on a bigger scale...

I personally think this system would be awesome.

I'd love to see something like this. It would probably take 1-1.5 years to complete but still worth it considering it would answer alot of questions and they'd constantly be fighting elite opponents.

It would be very difficult to organize though and all parties would probably not come to an agreement.

The Middleweight tourney that is being talked about in boxing gets me very excited and its pretty similar to what you're saying. However, their are a few fighters like Bute and Pascal (2 great Montreal boxers) who arent taking place in the rumoured tourney which is unfortunate because they are among the best.
