What if '71 Frazier fought '52 Marciano in a 15 rounder?

Elmer Ray, Archie Moore, Rex Layne. All great chins, and all better than Bonavena.

Better HWs? Perhaps, perhaps not. But never better chins. Bonavena was never KO'd. They were. And Moore was a LHW when Charles KO'd him. The Moore that Ali KO'd was ancient, but at least a HW.

Lyle was another hard chin that Ali cracked. And it was not often you saw Liston rocked and driven back. A young Ali did it twice in one fight. He also stopped the tough Quarry and was the only one to stop Wepner on anything but cuts.

Did Charles stop any ranked fighter over 200 lbs except for Joe Baksi?

Rather than comparing that version of Ezzard Charles to Ali it woud be more realistic to compare him to Jimmy Ellis. I dont want to sell Jimmy Ellis short at least he was in his prime the night Joe Frazier mowed him down in 4 rounds.

Joe was a machine that night. Ezzard Charles wouldnt have gone much farther.

So Moore gaining weight made his chin tougher? He was at end, and was hit so many times he went down, it was not power, it was accumulation of punches, many of them, over and over.

I think Charles did stop some plus 200 pound guys, his record is online. NOt many guys came in over 200 back then, no wieght lifting, more fighterss staying at 190-200 range. If Elmer Ray, Rex Layne, and others fought today, they would be 225, 235---and suck compared to how good they were back then. Getting overly bulked up does not make a better boxer, and definatley does not make for stronger chin.

Without seeing the other comments I say Frazier is too strong for Marciano and he stops him in 3 or 4 rounds. Frazier was too big, but at the same time I think the Klitchko's are too big for Frazier and would stop him in 5 rounds.

I agree and Valuev is too big for the Klitschko's and would stop them in 3 rounds a piece.

Bonavena was crude, rugged and tuff as nails, but his technique was under par on the world class level.... However, again, his determination and durability made up for his short-comings.... The vato could take and give a wallop....

This would be an awesome fight! I think Marciano wins because he has one-punch knockout ability and power in both fists. Frazier's chin wasn't great, and I think Marciano's power would overwhelm him. Marciano mid-round KO.

As I said, only one ranked fighter over 200 lbs. And they weren't lifting weights during Ali's time either, so that is a moot point.

But I still have to say that you don't have a clue with that last sentence either. Of course adding muscles in the right places will give you a better chin. To claim anything else is ludicrous.

And Ali KO'd the probably strongest HW champion of all times in Foreman. A guy who in middle age walked through the best punches of guys like Cooney, Morrison and Briggs. Brutal punchers. Bonavena was also a tank of a man, able to bully Frazier around. And Lyle took the best of Shavers and nearly took the best of Foreman, but Ali stopped him while looking like he'd hardly seen the inside of a gym for the last couple of months.

Ali was a hard hitter when he was sub 200 himself against sub 200 guys.
100%KO ratio on opponents up to 184lbs.
75% KO ratio from 185-200 lbs.

He was a featherfist against 200lbs+ guys.

Remember that foreman totally gassed himself.
