Don’t think he beats Usyk in the rematch.

Still doesn't change that his resume is nothing special at this moment in time.

Plenty of fighters get to be mandatories, but they don't enter the picture that defines the greatest of a given era unless they've achieved a serious resume of their own, and again, Joyce just hasn't yet.

Sure, but we're not talking about whether he's earned a mandatory shot, we're talking about which fighters would have to be beaten to define the best fighter of the era - and Joyce's resume is laughably short of relevant to that discussion.

Ultimately all you can do is beat the best of your era. I see AJ fighting until he is 36/37 because he is such a great athlete.

When he fights for a title which is guaranteed you will see what I am talking about. He is a danger to all.

True, but that doesn't change the fact that he hasn't.

And until he has, it's pure speculation just how good he really is... Or isn't, potentially.

So.. if AJ beats the two best heavyweights on the planet right now will be become the number 1 of his era?

Well he'd have a serious claim, firstly it would depend on how he got those victories.. clear and obvious wins or some Matchroom BS scorecards.. but then the defeats to Ruiz and Usyk will be thrown at him, but it also depends what happens afterwards..

But AJ has problems, he has serious Usyks problems first but there has also been a huge shift in public opinion when it comes to Fury Vs AJ.

It was seen as very competitive not so long ago, now it's getting to the point where many people are not seeing the point of them fighting, they have Fury as a huge favourite and don't see it as remotely competitive.

We've seen AJ beaten up and quit, then completely outboxed and hurt on multiple occasions by a career cruiserweight.

The idea that AJ was some unbeatable powerhouse is long gone, Fury though is seen as a man that would be a huge favourite against any heavyweight out there.

AJ is a long way off Fury, nobody is even suggesting AJ is top of the tree any longer, even a win over Usyk in the rematch doesn't put him there now, he has shown too many weaknesses and Fury has moved on.

Up to a point, sure - based on what I've seen against what he's been in with he's got potential to go further...

He might be a nightmare for anyone in the division, or he might not be competitive in the top half of the top ten.

    And that was original question.

Is beating Joyce part of necessary to become the definitive heavyweight of this era?
Hell no - that's way, way overreaching his current status within the division.

AJ already has a greater claim than Fury as it stands, Fury just has a stronger momentum based on his recent performances. If they were both to retire tomorrow AJ would rank higher than Fury.

The chapter isn't closed. Fury still has fights with AJ, Usyk and/or Whyte to determine his heirachy in the division. Should he perform as expected he can very well cement himself as the Heavyweight of this era. If he stumbles along the way, then the chips lie wherever they lie.
