If Joshua knocks out Ruiz in the first round my cat will be happy (I'll go to bed early).

Ruiz landed a shot in that area around the ear, high up on the cranium that badly scrambles the brain. Unlike a shot to the chin which fighters can often recover from a shot in that area is concussive in a way that fighters can’t shake off.

Let’s not forget that Joshua dropped Ruiz for the first time ever in his career, in the following exchange Ruiz hit the ‘off switch’ area which despite Ruiz’s obvious skill, was a little lucky. Not lucky that he landed a shot but that he hit that area high up between the ear & the temple.

If the roles are reversed in the return match then I think Joshua is morally obligated to give Ruiz a rematch and it’ll be best of three!

    Joshua lost in round 3
He never recovered from a shot from which most fighters wouldn’t have risen from the canvass. The fact he stuck around for more rounds and more knockdowns made it look much worse than if he’d taken a knee and been counted out in the 3rd.

Ruiz is nothing special, he's actually very overrated at the moment and although joshua is a poor mans wlad and is extremely overrated by brits , he should and I believe he will win the rematch .

A one-round blow out would not eradicate a seven-round, four knockdown demolition. Joshua needs to outbox Ruiz for a couple of rounds at least to do that, not simply catch him cold in the first...

You don't think his punch resistance, ability to recover, stamina and lack of ability to use his physical advantages (by fighting a Lewis/Wlad type "big man" style) looked weak?

I think he looked horrible, Ruiz showed heart and determination but he didnt physically or technically look any better than usual. Joshua was just poop.

This isn't like in Tokyo where Douglas suddenly looked like a superbly skilled, athletic and bigger ATG against a smaller guy who was off his game.

This was a big ripped guy with Olympic pedigree who was completely unable to use his physical advantages.

Tyson took a gazillion shots against the bigger Douglas and kept coming until he was half dead and got his head taken off.

I think that punch to the back of the head or wherever it landed was really effective and punch resistance really doesnt matter in that case. Tyson didnt get hit a shot like that. And when Tyson goes down, he always stays down. Joshua however gets up every time.. That combo that put Ruiz down for the first time in his career was quick and fine as **** I dont think anybody can really look horrible, if they can do that to their opponent. .I think Joshua looked fine until that round 3 shot. But lets see how the rematch goes. If Ruiz beats Joshua again, then I will say Joshua wasnt as good as I thought or Ruiz is just all wrong for him.....Still my favorite fighter, though :) No matter if he loses 100 times.

But yeah, Ruiz was better that night, for whatever reason it was. I hate using "if"s and shoulda coulda wouldas and hate when other people use them, but IF Joshua would have been more careful after he got Ruiz down, maybe the outcome would have been different? Who knows but I think THAT was the key point in this fight and I think Joshua and his team knows it too. Otherwise: Why take the rematch so soon? If he got absolutely "schooled" or "destroyed? Which he didnt...

If AJ scored a decisive 1st round stoppage, unless there was something very wrong with Ruiz, I think a trilogy would be unnecessary

It would certainly stop the nonsensical threads about how Ruiz has "amazing, never seen before hand-speed" or "weight doesn't matter, movement matters" or "boxing is about skill, its not a bodybuilding contest".

Man guys have taken that shot that AJ couldn't recover from. AJ has always had a weak chin since the AMs and he's always depended on boxing a guy from the outside instead of getting down and dirty when he had to-meaning that he can't fight inside. That's how the majority of those Euro guys black or white fight. They can't fight inside.

When AJ should've went inside and went to Ruiz body and then went back to boxing"..he stayed at the end of the shorter man's shots which is a boxing sin. He doesn't know how to parry and he won't move. He just jabbed Ruizs body from the outside which allowed Ruiz to jump in on him. I don't know who will win the rematch. I just know that Joshua is seriously flawed.

Not happening. AJ's flaws have been apparent since the Klitschko fight. He would have been KO'ed then if Wlad had been 3-4 years younger.

Joshua will fight ultra conservative prime Wlad jab hug style. He will obviously get a decision is he's standing at the end of 12.
