you cannot go changing rules as drastically as that and not expect to **** up the sport, yes you are right the sport is broke but not because of the rules and glove size its broke because of crooked promoters fighters having too much power over their own careers fights not being made fighters avoiding others corruption ppv too many alphabet titles i could go on for a long time
The sport has been changed drastically many times hence it is a compeltely different sport over the past 100 odd years. I don't think gloves should be MMA style. I do think that 147 and below wear 8oz and 154 and above wear 10oz. This should stick. Not too long ago, they discussed changing this. They also need to do soemthing about so many makes. There needs to be a standard glove or at the very most 2 or 3. I would suggest Everlast and Reyes. The pillows need to go. I agree with your list though. The game needs a shake up. My latest idea is the orgs merging. That would be amazing and bring about some real unity. Just a dream though. The sport is and always will be too fragmented.
i think a lot of places do have 8 oz for 147 and under, i agree about the pillows would be great to see em gone but if you had fragile hands im sure you would prefer wear them than reyes, its your livelihood at the end of the day
totally agree quick knockouts are cool but not when it happens every fight long 10 round wars are more exciting than a guy getting KO'd by the first real clean punch
They do use 8oz gloves, most of the time. Same with at 154, Mayweather had to use 10oz gloves when he fought ODLH. And the sanctioning bodies should merg, or atleast get rid of some, but that will never happen.
154 and up and the men are average men. Tall, well built guys. 147 guys and below and pathetic little guys Floyd, Mosley etc are really small guys with small hands. For this reason, I want them to stick to 8oz and not move to 10oz like was proposed not too long ago.
Boxing should use no more than 6oz gloves. Lower weight fighters look they're wearing inflatable gloves sometimes, compare it to say, Zapata-Bassa (first Flyweight fight that comes to mind) and you'll see the gloves they were wearing then were must smaller. Watch Luis Concepcion though, and his gloves look massive. Political correctness/health and safety regulations may have made boxing safer, but it's also a less exciting sport.
It would be horrible for the sport. People would not pay knowing that the majority fights are likely to end in early KO's. It works for mma because there are much more facets that keep the fights intriguing.
I think smaller gloves is probably safer, there will be more KO's, but a lot of deaths are from rounds of beating. Its caused by getting you head punch repeatedly, then getting a minute to recover and repeat. Smaller gloves, you get KTFO quicker which is actually better for your brain.
you would think that but history proves this theory completely wrong, boxers would adjust defensively to the smaller gloves and the ko % might go up but only fractionally and the death rate and injury rate would go up, there are lads from the classic forum who could tell you properly but when the sport had 5 oz gloves i think they were it was the darkest period for boxing, people getting killed every week in the ring
