For those who have seen the legendary Brian Sutherland or followed his storied career, I wonder what would've happened if he'd had better training.. Like if he learned the basics like footwork, punching technique, head movement etc. I mean he did clearly have the intangibles, like heart, and tenacity, but he really needed a good defensive coach like Floyd Sr or McGirt to compete well, and hide that glass jaw better. Any thoughts on where he might've gone? Would he have perhaps won a fight?
He didn't need a ****ing trainer. The only reason why he isn't an ATG is because he didn't get the big fishts. If he weren't seriously injured in that moonshining accident, five year old kids would know who he is.
I think I get what you're saying.. His situation was not much unlike Sam Langford, where he was avoided , hence didn't get the big fights, and hence lacked the recognition.. Good points:good
And that terrible moonshine incident...... He was just learning his craft before he was taken from the boxing public.. I heard he is still a trainer in NC somewhere
Does anyone know if there's footage of his "fight" against Danny Wofford? His matchup against Kenny Rainford was pure boxing gold, having a second fight to watch would be like Christmas in July. Brian Sutherland = Legend.
Talent is a HUGE factor in almost every sport and it certainly is a very big factor in boxing. The mulletman clearly didn't have any talent whatsoever, so he would never even make it to decent journeyman level with whatever training they would give him. But there are other completely untalented guys out there who never even saw the inside of a boxinggym (or maybe only to sign up to get their licence), so with some proper training he might have been able to beat one or two cans out there.
Thanks for the input.. Joking posts and serioua ones are equally appreciated on this thread. I think many just dont know about the legendary mullet mauler
