What if Douglas had beaten tucker in 87? He would have gone on to meet tyson in the unification fight. How would that have played out? "would he he still beat tyson or is Tokyo a one off night never too be repeated. Or would Douglas have always had tyson number?
U mean tyson would have beat Douglas like he did tucker and then gone on to beat spinks? But who would tyson have lost to then? Douglas would probably have been out of the picture then and would nt have got another shot?
What if Douglas had beaten tyson to become unified champion in 87 though. That would have thrown a massive spanner in the works. Tyson was a massive favourite to win the tournament so with Douglas as the champ things would have been so different r
Did you watch the Tyson vs James Tillis fight? Tyson struggled against him and maybe even lost that fight. Tyson always had trouble with guys who had a decent jab. Tyson was just like Ronda Rousey ( I mean the hype around them) the only difference was Tyson actually had some level of skill. But their opponents start falling for the hype and were beaten before the fight start. Not because Tyson was better but because they believed they would lose. If Douglas came into the ring in shape and believing he could win and would he would always beat Tyson unless Tyson landed a lucky punch. Hell Tony Tucker would beat Tyson as well. He did go 12 against Tyson with a broken hand. He still fought scared like he didn't believe he would win. He didn't throw his jab with right hand with conviction like Douglas did or he would of won even with that broken hand. If Douglas beat Tucker for the belt his confidence would of been even higher when he fought Tyson. He still would of won against Tyson and people would consider a lot more of him than they do now.
I think Tokyo was Busters time. The death of his mother caused him to 'let it all go' he was a man possesed that night, never to be repeated. Something happened between his ears that night that never happened previously or since. He always had ability, but what that night showed was that mindset is so important , same in all walks of life. If he beat Tucker, he would've lost to Tyson if he fought him later in '87 in my view. Tokyo was Busters' night. He looked a great fighter that night, but Buster wasn't a guy with the mindset to repeat it, hell , he couldn't keep outta the fridge once he was champ.
Wow you typed Lol? You must be cool or maybe you are one of those dumb ghetto black Mike Tyson fans who always makes excuses for your ****** hero? If that is the case I am surprise you can even read. Your boy Tyson lost to Douglas period. This is a fact. It is a fact moron that Tony Tucker fought Tyson with a broke hand and still fought Tyson well and lost a close decision. The only thing funny is the fact your mom didn't abort you. I guess she was too busy with my man parts in her mouth to even care. Another stupid idiotic waste of space British guy. I see why you lack basic intelligence. But now you are blocked so I won't have to see your comments anymore.
I think both Tyson and Douglas were two different animals in 1987 than they were in 1990. One of them for the better and the other for the worse.
Douglas had the tools and ability to beat tyson as he showed in tokyo, tucker win may have give him confidence to repeat tokyo version
Tyson would've steamrolled Douglas. Strangely enough, that might lead into an unfocused Tyson losing to Tucker in Tokyo. If Tyson got through that, I think he would've prepared well for Holyfield which would be a war and could go either way.
I agree regarding tyson been at a different stage of his life in 87 to what he was in 90. I personally think that tyson would have beat buster if they had met back then instead. Douglas would have not had the mindset and determination he had in Tokyo. So would have been a ko for tyson
I stopped when you brought Ronda rousey into it. There is nothing to compare, not even the hype aspect. Tyson was killing these guys from more than just hype, he was feared for a good reason so totally different. Its always "those guys fell out of fear", Typical Tyson detractors, Berbick, Thomas, tucker, Ruddock just to name a few were not scared and fought with determination. that comparison to Ronda is a pet hate of mine, keep hearing it lately. Anyway I'd say Tyson wins because I think the stars aligned for Douglas in Tokyo, his mothers death game him unbeatable desire. I think he could have troubled Tyson but it was proved he could be hurt so I think a better prepared mike would finish him at some point. And yes I am in the camp that believes Tyson wasn't best prepared for the toughest fight of his life. I don't care what people say, no Rooney, personal issues, training issues, played a part in that fight, yep it's his fault but it doesn't change it. I'm not saying Tyson would have won but he was definetly "not on" that night. Now for Douglas to beat Mike I believe he has to be in that once in a life time shape, personally I don't think he had the desire to be like that more that once which is proved. If he edged by tucker then I believe Tyson would have got a ko near that round 4 mark. Tyson would have been well up and prepared if Douglas had the goods to beat a top contender in tucker, he wouldn't be facing a journeyman.
