Guys I got a hypothetical for you, What if the judges posted their cards publicly after each round of a fight? So say a fighter takes a 10-9 round on and the judges scores are posted electronically to a scoreboard for everyone to view after the round. Using Pac Diaz as an example here is what would be posted at the end of round 2 for everyone to view Judge 1 Judge 2 Judge 3 RD 1 - 10-9 Pac 10-9 Pac 10-9 Pac RD 2 - 10-9 Pac 10-9 Pac 10-9 Pac Total - 20-18 Pac 20-18 Pac 20-18 Pac How would these changes affect things ? Would a system like this even be feasible ? Thoughts
Nah, wouldn't work. The problem is that it sways the judges decisions. For example, if the crowd is partisan, wouldn't they boo a bad decision that is posted? Thus it adversely affects the judges ability to make a non-partisan, technical decision on the fight itself. This system your proposing is fan friendly, but it won't make a better sport out of boxing.
Isn't open scoring used in some WBC title fights? I think it's mainly in Asia, the judges scores are announced after every 4 rounds.
Just to play devil's advocate though say a fight like De la Hoya vs Trinidad where Oscar ran the later half of the fight because he thought he had won convincingly, now he knows the exact score and has to go out and win rounds thus forcing him to fight. I think it works both way but now fighters know when they can take rounds off.
I wasn't suggesting it would make the sport better I was merely asking why not ? What if they isolated the judges (Somehow) thus taking away the influential element.
It'd take the excitement out of those final accouncements, especially by Buffer (Love his voice lol), and especially if it was a close fight or a draw - Calzaghe Hopkins and Winky Taylor for example
Wouldn't it make the closer fights more exciting ? I mean if you knew it was a draw going into the last round wouldnt it make that last round a war ? A real time updated scoring system might have made Hopkins move his ass a little more if he knew he was losing rounds ahead of time (although I doubt he was capable).
