What's up fellas. I've noticed that a lot of posters are torn in this fight. It's truly one of those fights where either fighter has a legitimate chance of winning. Personally, I think Cotto beats him convincingly. HOwever, I do see why people think Margarito will take it. I'm not here to argue who will win b/c there have already been plenty of threads arguing both scenarios. My question is what would you guys (both fans and more importantly Cotto haters/disbelievers) think of Cotto if he just straight up blitzes through Margarito? I'm talking about what if Cotto just straight brutalizes marg's face and Ko's him or if Cotto just outboxes him easily 12 rounds to zero. Again, I know both scenarios are unlikely. But, WHAT IF??????
If Cotto stops him, and I'm not counting cuts, then he becomes No. 2 PfP in the world and the mandatory challenger to Mayweather in everyone's eyes. At that point, the money will be there and Floyd can't hide behind the Hatton fight without tarnishing his 147-pound legacy. Don't expect that to happen, though.
Exactly, maybe have a few odd moments, but for the most part dismantle this overrated fighter and stop him on accumulation damage rounds 5-8. Easy fight, maybe he'll get stunned once, big deal.
If Cotto destroys Margarito?? The world would force Floyd to Acknowledge him. Prob 100% the fight would happen then. (Still depends on De La Hoya) Maybe Cotto goes for the payday vs. Oscar, or maybe Trinidad? (Trinidad match would be huge in PR)
No 2 PFP might be a little high but I wouldnt see a problem with it. However, Cotto should already be the mandatory challenger to FLoyd with no questions asked. What I'm curious about is knowing that if Cotto easily dismantles marg, will people give him more of a chance to beat FLoyd. More importantly, if he takes Margarito's best shot and keeps coming, will that make him look even more dangerous than he already is.
Margarito is a B level opponent, Cotto won't move up P4P, when he's already beaten Mosely and Quintana, two superior fighters to Margarito. The stoppage comes on damage, as Marg damages easily and is also weak to the body. Marg's lack of defence is awful against Cotto, as is his slow starting. It should be expected that Marg gets stopped. He was even stunned against Clottey, and against Williams also. The cintron fights make his chin appear iron because Cintron couldn't get full leverage much as Marg was smothering him. It's just another good win. I am a Cotto fan, but let's not blow this out of proportion here, it's Antonio ****ing Margarito, not another Mosely level fighter.
If Cotto destroys Margarito, then Floyd would be forced to make DLH-Mayweather 3 happen for the fans.
I'm really glad you said this b/c people make it seem like just b/c you get stunned you have a terrible defense or you are chinny. Granted some people get stunned more than others, but with Cotto, it seems like if he even gets tapped once in a fight, his defense is terrible. in his 30+ fights, he's been visibly HURT against Torres and Corley. He was visibly stunned against Judah & maybe Abdullaev. Outside of those fights, you can not say that he has clearly been hurt.
I say that because I view Calzaghe and Pacquiao as being on the decline. And as mandatory, I mean in the public sense, not a title sense. As in, there is no other fight the public will accept for Mayweather other than Cotto. For me, I'll be more favorable on Cotto's chances if he can outbox Margarito for an extended period. Not that he'd fight Floyd the same way, but an industrious fighter with heart and punch and tactical prowess -- something that he's hinted at having, but not really confirmed for 12 rounds -- must be taken even more seriously.
Margo is A-level all the way. I'm not saying he's a PfP fighter, but he's a tough out for anyone at 147. It also would be a surprise if Margarito started slowly in the biggest fight of his career. And Cotto is prone to getting hurt early in fights, so who knows how that will go. Margarito has been stunned but not like Cotto, so there's no question his chin is better. I do share your opinion on his body, though. It's a question mark. I favor Cotto to win at this point, but an early stoppage would shock me.
You should have expected it as Asterion is a clear cut Floyd groupie. If Cotto doesn't look like a knockout monster against AM (which we all know is highly improbable given who AM is) then Asterion will make a case for Cotto not being on the same level as Mayweather. The "Look he struggled with Margarito" routine.
