I'll define success as being capable at a world level. Most highly athletic people who attempt to box don't become world class fighters. It isn't 'more likely than not' that he would be successful, it is very unlikely.
if we had more programs rewarding boxers for being boxers and it was a more popular sport here, we would have guys like dwight howard fighting. unfortunately, its impossible to get a college scholarship for boxing. its just like talking about soccer. we would dominate the world cup if our best athletes went to soccer instead of football, basketball, baseball, hockey, etc. fortunately for us here in the US, boxing is pretty popular and we do have a decent amount of solid athletes who love boxing.
Howard isn't just any athletic athlete: He's has amazing strength, amazing explosiveness, and amazing leaping ability. He also moves like a cat. He is a highly gifted athlete that I think would do very well in boxing had he taken it up at an early age.
I have no idea. We have not seen him fight at all. For all his size, he might have so weak a chin he'd get his head knocked off with a single punch. Or even with all his size, he might not even have power at all. If there's one thing that boxing taught me, size isn't the only thing in the ring.
Amen, brother. Got my ass-kicked by a middleweight once. Doesnt matter how big he is, if he doesn't have the loads of intangibles the Klitschko's have, he's getting run through, and early. Great athletes try boxing. Some are successful, see Jermain Taylor. Most arent. See 70% of active professionals today.
Very ****ing true. Some of the NBA guys would probably be well suited to boxing, but we'll never know.
Even if he was groomed from a very young age there is the one major factor that we need to know. - Does he have the natural ability/skills to excel. This factor is more important than size/strength etc etc. It's just not as simple as saying if this person or that person was taught by Floyd Mayweather Sr from age 5 would they be great boxers.
Have you morons ever seen NBA players square off and attempt to duke it out its both embarrasing and hilarious....you get better cat fights in a school yard. Smack that guy in the chin and he probably falls flat on his face.
Seriously? Would he have boxing skills? Would he have good defense? Power? Valuev is bigger and doesn't have huge power. Chin? No way of knowing Hand speed? Intelligence? Nothing likely about him being succesful. Ok he's athletic and is ripped. Lol future ATG.
