Instead of Nigel fighting him on that night?

How would Eubank of fared against the G-Man?

  2. How do you think he would 'of'??

Both were excellent boxer-punchers who'd come into the ring at 180+ and remain 'chiseled'. But Eubank had far better reflexes, he'd be giving up height and reach but he had that elastic waist and ability to shift his weight back and forth, did Eubank. McClellan liked to circle and use his jab as a range-finder, looking to time, and other Yank imports (Jarvis and Essett) found that near-on impossible against Eubank the way he'd step into his jab or right hand to the body before pulling out of harms way. Gerald can't try swarming him, he just can't - it's what Chris desired. I don't see McClellan getting close enough to land his killer punch - the left hook to the body. Eubank points for me.

Eubank on a very close points decision.

It would have been a tale of two fights.

Eubank not being busy enough to keep McClellan off his game in the early rounds, but McClellan not being able to crack Eubanks chin.

McClellan tiring in the later rounds with Eubank finding his shots landing with ease.

    In UK: Eubank SD

    In US: McClellan SD

(A possible late stoppage for Eubank if McClellan tires himself out too early).

Funny enough - I have long wondered this question myself.

  8. Sorry!! Had a **** day, in an arsey mood!

    Not called for.

For the record, id have Eubank winning a decision. There's no way he'd have been as reckless as benn. Better chin too.

You had to back McClellen up and get in his grill. That's how you exposed his weakness. Eubank would get out hustled. G-man is too much of a good boxer puncher for Eubanks sporadic counters. McCellen would have the first and last punch and Eubank was never one to punch with his opponent.

With G-man height and leverage he would stay at the edge of range to pressure Chris effectively, and step out of range to take the sting of counters. Eubank anchored his feet when he jumped in with single counters, I could see McClellen catching him with something big when he did that.

Potshotting like Eubank would attemp to do would not work for him.

I believe McClellen would be a bad style for Chris. G-man was effective because he use to throw straight punches and position himself, so that punches landed within the last three inches of his fully extended arm reach. I think he would hurt and drop Eubank. But not stop him.

Nigel won because he had the aggression to take advantage of G-man's flaws of pulling his head back. Plus he fought like a man possessed that night. Now, Eubank had the ability to put himself in a different place mentally too. But i don't see his passive potshotting being enough. He didn't across the danger zone enough.

The thing is though, Eubank never got caught with jabs - because he himself wasn't just on the edge of the range but slightly out of range, always in that perfect spot. When they stepped in, he got off his sneaky shots, if he didn't step out. McClellan wouldn't touch Eubank's head with his left hand, as he liked to before timing the overarm right (like Andre Ward does with his left), he'd have to reach in or step forward. Eubank's advantage over everyone else was flexibility - he could bend and twist and lean his high waist something crazy. And shift his weight forward and back by gliding, rather than stepping! McClellan was more fundamentally sound, but Eubank has a terrible terrible style for him.

I'm not sure if this is a great fight to make a comparison between Eubank and Benn.

I remember watching the fight live on telly and I have never felt more wound up and tense than before this fight. Everybody knew that McClellan v Benn meant there was going to be full on violence taking place.

Ultimately I am of the view that McClellen was in trouble after 4-5 rounds from the blood clot. All the blinking and then spitting out gum shield.

I think a fully function McClellan would have taken Benn out in the middle to late rounds. He showed his devastating punching in the 1st round when Benn was lucky to get through it.

McClellan in my view was better than both Benn and Eubank and if fully fit would knock out Benn and stop Eubank. Obviously Eubank's chin was top drawer but McClellan's power was just devastating. Not a nice individual by some accounts but was destined for great things imo.

Seeing the trouble Gerald had with Dennis Milton, Ralph Ward and Sanderline Williams and even Julian the first time, it's difficult to see him not being outboxed by Eubank of all.

G-Man can't ko Eubank, Eubank turns it on late.

McClellan was a one or two year pro in these fights so a bit harsh to pull him down on those.

If you wanted to have a pop you could say his best wins against Jackson and Mugabi were against shop worn fighters.

  15. I know there are many who will strongly disagree with this but I think G-Man was incredibly overated and Eubank (do we have to call him "senior" now?? :think ) would have schooled him in a fashion similar to the way Lacy was beaten by Calzaghe.
