What if Haney fought Loma like he did Kambosos?

What do you think about Haney's gameplan vs Loma? To fight toe-to-toe more and target the body, rather than jab from the outside all night?

What do you think would have happened if Haney fought Loma like he did Kambosos, just staying outside and jabbing all night? Do you think that would have been a smarter gameplan, or was it more risky to get inside with Loma?

Some say that if he pumped the jab all night and stayed outside that Loma would have been able to counter the jab. So was it smarter for Haney to fight Loma toe to toe like he did, to target the body as much as he did?

You could also say that by doing that Haney gave the fans a more exciting fight by being willing to stay in the pocket with Loma and slug it out. If that's the case, then shouldn't Haney get more credit for fighting in a more fan friendly style and making it a more entertaining fight?

Doesn’t matter how he fights Loma, he was in a position to get the decision no matter what as Bob signed a new deal with him to squeeze him for every penny possible for the foreseeable future.

For someone who thinks he’s the next Floyd, talks like him and tries to fight like him he sure is a dumbass signing with the one promoter that Floyd swore to never work with again.

Haney will last aslong as it takes for Bob to find someone better to dethrone him, oh guess what? He already has that guy contracted, his name is Shakur Stevenson so it’s really a **** deal all around for Haney and his pops. I wouldn’t be surprised if its only a short term 3 fight to move upto 140, fight Ryan Garcia and then come back to 135 to lose to Shakur twice.

    Haney aint ****

It was the best I saw Haney fight, Lopez used body shots too, jab jab then go to the body, it worked quite well, he took Loma`s shots pretty well.

We saw new dimensions out of Haney. Not just the body shots but the counters. Haney put together some nice combinations, not just jab-straight combos but power punch combos.

I think the way he fought this fight is what made the judges favour him in the narrow decision instead of fighting on the back foot all night.

I think he started off with that gameplan and he adjusted well in the third to start taking the fight to Loma. For the record I had it 7-5 to Loma but thought Haney fought very well and it was a close hard-fought scrap.

Kambosos is orthodox, loma is southpaw. Using the same strategy in both fights only leads to losing one of them (at least).

In terms of fighting from distance, from the outside, throwing mostly jabs, without getting inside. What if he fought that way vs Loma? Was it smarter to fight how he did or would he have done better if he fought Loma more like how he fought in Kambosos 1?

You cant fight loma as you fight kambosos:

    1) loma's liver is exposed by his guard because he's southpaw. Kambosos' is not. So it is not equally effective to throw big bombs to the body with your right hand to kambosos.
    2) a jab blocks your oponent's right hand when you throw it. It means that it plays a defensive role (as well as an attacking role) vs an orthodox fighter, but it exposes you to a MASSIVE counter vs a southpaw. You cant use your jab the same way and as often.
    3) the one getting inside was loma, not haney. Haney tried to keep loma as far as possible, but lomachenko's feet were too fast and he managed to get inside very often.

It's completely different to fight an orthodox fighter and a southpaw fighter.

Had haney tried to simply outjab loma from distance, loma would have bypassed the jab with a sidestep and connected left hands at will. Those bombs to the body made very difficult for loma to sidestep, you cant dodge body punches or sidestep them. Or loma could simply exchange jabs for left crosses. He takes full haney's jab with his face, in exchange of connecting a full left cross on Haney's face.

It would have made no sense at all if Haney did that.

Haney made a concerted effort to fight Loma toe to toe, to lead with the right hand, to put together hooks and uppercut combos, to target the body as Loma came in. As opposed to in the 1st Kambosos fight when he tried to keep it simple, control him with distance, throw mostly jabs, etc. Now granted, Loma is a far more stylistically difficult opponent, but what I'm asking is : Did Haney fight the right fight? Did he fight a smart fight? A lot of people were surprised that Haney didn't jab as much as he has done in the past. Haney said himself after the fight that he decided not to fight from distance but to show that he could fight in a more fan friendly style. Yes Loma is quicker on his feet than Kambosos, and can cut distance off faster, but Haney has shown in the past that he can move and keep distance, and control the fight with his jab.
It sounds like you don't think that Haney could beat Loma by fighting that way, by just throwing a jab and controlling him at distance. If that is the case, then would you agree that Haney fought a smart fight? What did Haney do well against Loma? Did Haney make any mistakes against Loma, did he not throw the jab enough? Was it a smart tactical move from him to exchange with Loma, look to counter, lead with right hooks, throw hook/uppercut combos rather than just jabs and straights?

Haney fought a very smart fight and the right fight. The proof is that he won the fight and those hyper-dangerous loma's sidesteps had never been shut down like that before.
