A counter puncher must have a sharp reflex such as Marquez. He is gifted to at least evade or block while getting ready to throw a counter.
Being a counter puncher is a skill that only people who train it since the start of their career could make it effective.
Floyd Sr. could and will teach Hatton to be more defensive, but not him or Nacho could ever make Hatton a very effective counter puncher.

Counterpunching PAC? I think that won't work... PAC already fought the best counterpuncher in boxing 2 times already and PAC passed those tests... It's too late for Hatton to master counterpunching to even get 60% of JMM's counterpunching skills... Better for Hatton to stick to his come forward all pressure attack style of boxing...

Hatton has fought about 8 southpaws, and obviously beaten all of them.....

But hasn't often looked great against them.

With Pac being pretty hittable rather than cagey, it may help - but with Pac being better than any of them I guess that is neutralised.

Fighting a whole fight with the aim to counter requires relaxation and patience, Hatton doesn't have these. He's too hot headed for that kind of strategy. Hatton has good footwork, a lot of people don't seem to realise this. A good few fighters who you'd think would outbox Hatton haven't been able because his in-out movement is very quick and he's pretty good at cutting off the ring. I would imagine improving what he's already got, smoothing over the rough edges is what Mayweather sr will be doing. Polish the footwork, work on headmovement and punch picking.

Unlikely, but I would expect a Controlled Brawler. Mayweather Sr. will teach him how just like what we saw in the Malinaggi fight but Pac still wins bro.

Then he'll be beaten like Marquez.

His strong brawling style will beat Pac, not a counter punching style.

Neither fighter is going to have to go looking for the other. Both get hit....often. Let's see who has the best punch/chin combination?
