gotten a fight with the brown bomber joe louis? lets say he weighs in as a lightheavy. does he even have a chance with joe? this is a man that would fight anyone anywhere anytime and took on some and beat some good lightheavies and i believe a few heavies. does his iron jaw take this fight to the finish?by the way thats a great photo of him posing with louis.

Maybe at 175 pounds he could last the distance. I wouldn't bet on it. either way, he'd take an awful beating.

even if his chin took the shots from louis after a while his face would be so badly beaten they would have to stop it

Louis's jab, and his combos would have JAKE ,marked up and reeling,I think it would be the Valentine's Day Massacre again, but much worse .
Louis by TKO, around 7-8rds, at most.

Mickey Walker was faced with the prospect of a match with both Louis and Dempsey during his career. While he expressed some willingness to take on Jack, he said of Joe, "Even at my best, I know I couldn't have licked him." At any time after Louis-Godoy II, this could have been an especially dreadful match for Jake. If it was going to happen though, and I was advising LaMotta, I'd have him boxing as a southpaw, something we see him do late in his win over Bob Murphy.

Southpaw Melio Bettina did beat a number of good, beefy and lanky heavyweights, and was only an inch taller than Jake. Bettina was stopped three times in 100 fights: early in his career as a teenager when he was sucker punched by Frank Zamaris in the final round of a fight he had won, when he stuck out his gloves for the referee to wipe off the resin after getting knocked down (Melio decisively won an immediate rematch), once when Gus Lesnevich caught him cold, dropping him three times within the first minute when Bettina was past 30, and when Johnny Flynn retired him at age 32 in six rounds. During his prime though, he did beat the Hatchetman.

At least some of Melio's success might have been due to the mere fact of being a southpaw at a time when world class competitors of that ilk were a relative novelty. Louis never took on one, thanks in large part to his wartime hiatus (or else he almost certainly would have been faced with Bettina). LaMotta never fought an entire professional bout from the southpaw stance to my knowledge. If dealing with Louis though, this is one situation where he'd be best off applying that element of surprise to catch Joe off guard. No, it wouldn't be enough, but Louis had it so deeply ingrained in him to commence punching behind his jab that a southpaw stance could stymie him for a time.

Jake came in at 167 for his knockout of Satterfield in 1946. He took an amateur Diamond Belt at 175. If he could get Louis in the ring following Joe's postwar stagnation, and again, try to surprise and confuse him by adopting the southpaw stance and maintaining Godoy's low profile, he might compete honorably for a few rounds until Joe managed to overcome his jab oriented hard wiring in favor of right hand leads.
