I don't care how big a Dawson fan you might be, anyone who wouldn't be just a little bit happy to see Glen win this thing is just a suck ass boxing fan. The man has paid his dues.
That he has. I give him alot of credit for going from a padded-record prospect going into the Hopkins fight to developing into a legit world class fighter the hard way, fighting everyone on their own turf, in the following years. It's rare to see one fighter encompass both routes to prominence in a single career since they contradict one another, but Glen's done it. I'm happy to see any success he has. That said, he had everything go right for him the first time around and I couldn't score it any closer than 7-5 Dawson. If he overcomes even bigger odds and wins the rematch, fair to say even shitty fans will have no choice but to respect him.
Thanks.:thumbsup I see pretty much the same thing; I don't see Glen getting stopped, but I do think the scores will be a little wider this time around, probably around 9-3 Dawson. What this fight will be is a great measuring stick of how far Chad's come as a fighter; I'm expecting roughly the same performance from Glen (slightly worse due to the age factor) since the gameplan he had from the first fight gave him the best chance for success, so any improvements Chad's made in the mean time should be pretty clear.
not sure about that... i mean, he had lots of trouble with johnson in that first fight. if dawson's that good, then johnson is that good too. part of me wants the young gun to prevail, but i wouldn't mind johnson getting what he deserves
i respect glen johnson greatly but the dues he has paid have nothing to do with the fact that he lost to chad dawson the first time and will lose again.
A Dawson win would be a notch better because of the (potential) "young star" factor. But a Johnson win is in no way "bad" for boxing... a) likely be a rematch, which would draw pretty good interest b) Johnson has a ton of respect from pretty much everyone c) it's not like Dawson has a big next fight anyway (Hopkins doesn't seem interested, who knows what Cloud's intention is) I don't think Calzaghe factors in at all. People sure like to throw his name into any thread they can.
I believe those are some huts burning. Glen is definitely a guy who's very difficult not to like. On the other hand Chad is our local guy here. May the best man win.
Bad for boxing? Boxing is about either win or lose, the best man deserves to win.. cant see how that can be bad! It would definately be a disaster for Dawson fans! but as a huge fan of Glen Johnson i would really like the road warrior to get Dawsons scalp this time, the first fight was extremely close and Johnson should have got atleast a draw in that one!
