The bigger question would be where would Jones have ranked in ATG lists had he beaten Tyson after Ruiz and then moved down and retired after Tarver 1?
The ripple effects of such temporal actions would propagate through the whole known universe. The possibilities and ultimate consequences can not be calculated without some sort of all encompassing contour integral factored into the algorithm. You are talking about something of Gaussian proportions.
He would have remained a paper champion at LHW who avoided the biggest challenges of the division he was fighting in
Bailey should I run down the list again for you as to who he fought ? :think Who did he really avoid ?
If Roy hadn't moved up to heavyweight he would have retired, eventually, with the first Griffin fight as his only loss. No doubt a prime Jones beats Tarver, Johnson and Calzaghe. I think Calzaghe and possibly Hopkins in a rematch give Roy some problems but he still wins very clear decisions over both of them at 175 pre-Ruiz. Hopkins can't handle Roy's speed and foot movement, while Joe would be hit by Roy's overhand right and straight right all too frequently. When I met Roy last October in London, he said some of the fights he regretted not having taken in his prime were Calzaghe, Benn and Michalczewski. The amazing thing is, now that Roy is a shot fighter, people seem to think some of these guys could have beaten him *before* the Ruiz fight! I will always maintain that the Jones who stopped Woods in 6 rounds had more than enough to stay undefeated for years. But that's just me...
No it wasn't. It was skyrocketing(humbly, he never was a legit cash cow) at the time of the Ruiz fight. That fight also the first where a noticeable decline in his abilities was apparent.
*Why is it never brought up that Roy Jones tested positive for steroids or How long was he on THG or that he was inplicated with BALCO along with others? When u start talking about Jones legasy..those facts need to be brought up... Jones fans hate hearing these things..but it is what it is...
I think Calzaghe is a bit overrated, but still, that unorthodox southpaw with the good chin who throws so many weird punches would have always given Jones trouble. Has Jones ever fought a good pressure fighter/swarmer? That should on paper be the style to beat a pot-shotter.
please post the news article where jones was implicated with BALCO. that was mosley only. you've been on these boards for too long. he tested positive vs richard hall for andro which was banned by the ibf but at the time was available legally over the counter. hall had twice the amount of andro that jones had in his system in that fight. if you have any facts please present them.
