What "amazing boxer" has he had the chance to fight? Are you suggesting that Agnew is an amazing boxer?
no, but i see things in kovalev that can be exploited. he's not the beast that everyone makes him out to be. agnew doesn't appear to be anything special. i've only seen footage of him from one fight. but what i've read about him suggests he has boxing skill. sam collona....the coach who has worked with andrew golota, adamek, manfreddy and many others considers him to be one of the best boxers to come out of chicago over the last 30yrs. that's high praise coming from him. if he has half the boxing ability or defensive skill of a guy like montell griffin...then i can see him going the distance and possibly outboxing a guy like kovalev. so far...everyone i've seen kovalev fight has had minimal boxing skill. they've all been there for him to find.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWXlCERgt2Y the guy in the red? he's not what i'd consider an excellent boxer.
john david jackson is one of the best...but kovalev was a complete fighter when he got to jdj. i'm not sure he's going to change him much.
bernard hopkins isn't a slick defensive wizard. he has a minimalist style of boxing that's extremely effective. cleverly is all over his front foot. a decent jab shouldn't miss him.
All Cleverly could do is cover up and go backward. Hed shoot a random weak jab here and there. and a couple of desperation hooks. He was overwhelmed totally. I see your point with Agnew, we shall see. I'll bet Agnew is out of there by the 3rd or 4th.
This I totally disagree with. Hopkins is a slick defensive wizard. He's one of the best defensive fighters in the history of the sport. How often does he get hit in his fights? How else do you think he managed to fight this late in his career at his age? He very rarely gets hit with flush shots. He knows every trick in the book.
Oh, and within the next three years .. we'll be having this same conversation regarding Beterbiev. He's ****ing awesome.
