i'm not denying his amateur career. sillakh was pretty good. i can't take anything away from him but he's defensively flawed and tailor made for a guy like kovalev. no head movement...keeps the left hand low. straight up and down. good boxer by european standards but not really defensively sound.

I agree about Sillakh, but he did have good footwork and a solid jab.

It's just his head was straight up in the air. I knew an overhand right would land and knock him out as soon as the fight started.

I saw it playing out exactly like that.

when i think slick defensive wizard i think of guys like whitaker, loche and benitez. they used improvised defense with great reflex and movement.

hopkins uses technical skill and solid fundamentals and he's a master at them. i never suggested he gets hit. read my post again.

Stevenson would be the worst matchup for Kovalev in my opinion.

I have no idea why Kovalev would want to a fight a guy that has the style to beat him.

It makes even less sense that Stevenson would duck a guy he would beat.

What has Agnew shown that makes you think he has a chance? I can't see any outcome other than Kovalev knocking him out early.

i'm not comparing their opponents. this is definitely a step up for agnew. he's got an extensive amateur background and he supposedly came up in the gym with some good fighters.

Well, obviously Stevenson's not so confident he could beat Kovalev, now is he?

Well, then you don't watch the same sport.

Go watch Hopkins in the second Chad Dawson fight, where he slips, rolls, and ducks, and makes Chad miss about 6 punches in a row.

Footwork is a part of defense too.

You do realize that don't you?

What the hell does that even mean... "he uses solid fundamentals..."

    What????!!!!

Hopkins is up there with the best of them.

You think Stevenson would beat Kovalev? Even stevenson knows he cant win.
Sergey wants to fight him because this is boxing. and the goal is to be champion, and to be the best.

Stylistically, Stevenson is a nightmare for just about anybody at 175. He has the tools to beat everyone at the weight, and those that aren't...(Ward).

I guess Kovalev could just go in there and smash him, but if he doesn't, I think Stevenson would either KO Kovalev late or win by decision.

I will agree that Steveson is ducking the fight though.

    Still on that defensive remark...

Put any of those guys you mentioned in the ring at the age of 48, and see how slick they are.
