I believe Moore wanted this fight badly...but LaMotta didn't really want it...LaMotta fought alot of great fighters, but not the 'Old Mongoose'... Would prime '40's LaMotta have lasted the distance with the man who holds the knockout record? I say yes, he would have gone the distance...and given Moore a good scrap...But I see Moore winning... Moore by UD. Opinions?
Anything is possible in the ring...But there is nothing indicative of LaMotta getting kayed early by anyone at or near his weight, in his career history.
All facts are pointing out to a KO/TKO victory for Moore at 175lb limit. 4 fights vs good light heavys, LaMotta got stopped three times.
One of these stoppages happened in the 40's. Could have been a few more if LaMotta stopped cheating with his weight and started fighting good opponents at his natural weight (he fought mediocre or tomato cans light heavy's instead).
Fox? That was dubious...and it was certainly a blackmark on his career. You are certainly entitled to your opinion...but that's all it is...opinion. Just like mine... He did what he thought was more advantageous for his career, fighting smaller men as opposed to larger ones...If you call that cheating, than 95% of teh boxers are 'cheating' today.
When I put this hypothetical out...I was thinking Moore had not reached a full fleged 175 yet...in the later forties... (not sure, have to look it up) and that figured very heavily IMO, that LaMotta could possibly last the distance...against the cagey puncher, Moore. At 175? I'm afraid any middleweight would get stopped by Moore...
Archie Moore TKO 7. moore was a HUGE lightheavyweight not to mention the 2nd greatest puncher of all time, even better puncher than robinson. lamotta is severely underated, but a peak archie is too much for him ps the billy fox fight was a fake. a dive.
Yeah, my first matter of buisness is to say that if anyone thinks LaMotta's loss to billy fox was real he is sadly mistaken. LaMotta threw that one to get a title shot at cerdan. To the person who said LaMotta faced 4 light heavies and got stopped three times, two of those were post SRR 6 which was the beginning of the end of his career, and LaMotta also knocked out alot of light heavies, Bob Satterfield being one of them. I dont think Jake would win, but if this fight happened at 160 in the 40's, I dont see anyone who could kaye-o the Bronx Bull.
Marcel Cerdan won the title some 10 months after LaMotta was stopped by Fox. At the time of the fight, Graziano was the champ, then he lost to Zale again. French fighter Cerdan was controlled by Carbo? Gimme a break. LaMotta made up bull**** excuse some 13 years after the fight (when statute of limitation has expired already and he couldn't be passed guilty anymore) without a single piece of proof.
