What if Leonard/Duran 3 had taken place 5 years earlier...?

I'm in the UK and when Hearns splattered Duran it was the early hours of the 16th June, so go **** yourself:lol:

How many fights had Moore had prior to this Duran masterclass? Was he 30-0? 40-0? Oh wait he was ****in 12-0:lol:

You know,i think apart from an immediate rematch at 147,that the duran of the moore fight would have been a tough proposition for leonard.
That was the last time we saw duran thoroughly dominate in a world title fight. I watched it recently, masterful performance. Up there with the barkley and palamino performances, possibly better.

A focussed Duran is a tough proposition for anyone but lets not base that on the Moore fight. Davie Moore was a novice professional (12-0) who had beaten nobody of significance in his career. His title win and subsequent defences were against mediocre opposition and Hands of Stone being a 4/1 underdog is ****in laughable.

Moore may have had good amateur credentials but that doesn't mean **** when you're fighting a guy with 80+ professional fights. Duran was lethal against Cuevas and clearly on the upswing.

I disagree with your assessment of Moore as a world champion. He was in the right place at the right time to capture his title and ALMOST GOT KILLED when he went in with TRUE world class. Hatton may have held a WBU bauble but he also became linear at 140 and won a welterweight title.

Im not saying moore was SRR,but the actual performance by duran was tremendous, his reflexes, power, work rate etc. He moved well on his feet as well, which is key versus leonard.

His footwork & speed were superb against Hagler & if Leonard faced that sort of Duran & not the plodding bloated weight ****ed 89 version then he's in deep ****.

I find it hilarious that the common concenses is that leonard would box his way to a UD:lol:

Kalule smacked him around plenty with counters & had the crowd roaring him on from the 5th round & the Howard fight showed that Leonard did'nt have the goods/speed/power to take on the higher calibre champs on equal terms & least we forget that Duran outthought/outboxed/outsped & outfought a peak Leonard & it was all about who could bring what to the ring at the higher weights & Duran's performance against Hagler showed he had more than enough speed/guile/savvy to sort Leonard out big time & Leonard new that:deal

It's the case here that the only 2 times i've ever seen Roberto really take a fight 100% seriously & train like a beast to whip himself into top shape has been Leonard/Montreal & Hagler with the rest he'd only put in what he thought was required.

If Kevin Howard could deck Leonard then Duran can as did LaLonde/Hearns/Norris at the higher weights. It's Duran who fought Hagler who gets the UD here or TKO/KO as Leonard has absolutly nothing in his arsenal to give an 83 Duran any sort of bother at all & never really did have. Duran scared Leonard mentally after that mugging in Montreal & he's always had that close to the front of his mind as showed by his dreadfull thief in the night performance in 89.

I'am going to stick my neck out here & say this; An 83 Duran smashes Leonard all over the ring just as in Montreal & gets the UD & if it was over 15 then Leonard gets laid out:deal

Duran was n't really in shape for those two fights. Not to take anything awayfrom Benitez or Laing. The Cuevas,Moore and Hagler fights were more indicative of what Roberto was still capable of at this stage in his career. Happy birthday Hands of Stone :good

    It bears repeating. Especially today...

Duran caught lightning in a bottle on the night he beat Leonard. Perfect conditions had converged that allowed him to demonstrate his p4p superiority to Leonard. It would not have happened again because Duran in his 30s simply didn't have the legs to cope with Leonard.

So, no, in '84, Leonard would have circled him like an eagle over a carcass and it would have been a clinic.

...But don't be fooled. At the top of his game, Duran defeated Leonard and he would have defeated any version of Leonard on that night. In terms of p4p greatness, those who place Ray Leonard over Roberto Duran have a bit of a neophyte in them. They don't know their stuff.

    Happy Birthday to

Which is why he redeemed himself coming back to school Duran twice aswell as beating 3 men who beat Duran, what more do you want to prove superiority?
