What if Leonard/Duran 3 had taken place 5 years earlier...?

I am not sure at all that Leonard in Nov 1980 was a better fighter then Leonard was in June 1980. Leonard impressed me alot more in the first fight. I think the first fight took alot out of him also, and he ddn't look good in the 2nd fight. Just better then Duran.

Leonard was barely outpointing an obviously weak and slow Duran. Not sure why everyone is so impressed with it. He deserved to be champ, but I wasn't tha great of a performance. That Duran self destructed had nothing to do with Leonard's great boxing performance.

I think if Duran in Nov 1980 was in there agains Benitez, Benitez wouldn't be having trouble outpointing that Duran.

Leonard in the rematch fought with lots of movement as opposed to the first fight where he's largely flat flooted, fighting angry and hurt badly early on. So yes I think the more cautious Leonard of the rematch wins the first fight. I thought the rematch was a domination, didn't think Duran did much at all, he wasn't aloud to. He certainly didn't kick Roberto's ass, but he was clearly outboxing him none the less

He wasn't clearly beating Duran in the 2nd fight. I saw it live at the time surrounded by many people. Nobody thought Leonard was clearly winning. The announcers of the fight thought it was close. IT was different then the first fight, so some thought it was going Leonard's way. I will judge the 2nd fight on its own, it was a close fight.

If you want to be serious about discussing it, you have to ack that Duran was nothing like the first fight. This is obvious. Even Leonard admits that.

Leonard gave movement to a slow and weak Duran. Why..
IF you think Duran of June 1980 couldn't handle the meovement Leonard gave him in the 2nd fight you are dreaming. Once again he was BARELY beating Duran even in Duran condition. How do you think he would beat the animal that Duran was in the first fight. If Duran wins one more round in Nov he is actually ahead by the 8th round. YOu don't think there was that much of a difference in Duran.

Oh ok Arther, you have a strong bias towards Duran, no way was the rematch close, I don't think there's much point continuing this, agree to disagree, not in the mood for a 10page debate with no resolution

Why does a debate about Duran vs Leonard in 84 have to spark meaningless debate about them fighting each other in 1980? We

what happened in 1980; two great fighters fought each other twice, they got a win each, because they were both so great that they were able to pull out those wins over one another. That's all, no speculative bullcrap excuses for

I don't think the first fight was particularly close either, honestly.

Ray after the second fight would have beaten Duran easily everytime out. The only thing which might have affected the outcome was a cut on Ray. Duran could not deal with movement ever and Ray moved.
